An elite Goalie in the NHL is like an elite QB in the NFL

You ain't winning a title without one

We have been cycling through Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson level goalies the last 5 years

TBH, there have been quite a few non-elite goalies winning recently.

If Edmonton wins, Skinner is far from an elite goalie. Bobrovsky CAN be an elite goalie. He has been both a dumpster fire and elite in the past. Each season is a box of chocolates with him in net.

True enough, you just need an average goalie to get hot at the right time - unfortunately that never happened with us the last 5 years

Well, Freddie just can't be counted on. He couldn't even be "good enough." The bulk of the playoffs he was visibly shaken and unable to be effective. He just isn't a guy that is dependable during the postseason.

Here's what we've learned about Freddie over the past 3 seasons:

image.png.dc0072592ce1addb5d00b45409a3117c.png

2021-2022: 52 (reg season) games played with a 2.17 GAA and 922 SV %. No post season due to injury

2022-2023: 34 (reg season) games played with a 2.48 GAA and 903 SV %. 9 playoff games were better with a 1.83 GAA and a 927 SV %. He was far better in the post season than the regular season, but a short season due to injury.

2023-2024: 16 (reg season) games played with a 1.84 GAA and a 932 SV %. 10 playoff games with a 2.62 GAA and a 895 SV%. Another short season due to injury.

But the glaring number here should be the fact that with 246 regular season games over the past 3 seasons, Freddie has only played 102 of those. We have paid him $4.5M to play in a total of 50 regular season games and 19 post season games over the past 2 years.

Koochie Mane is the way.

Totally agree - give Kooch 2/3 of the starts and a rested Freddie will be fine as a back-up, just keep him away from the playoffs. Freddie has proven to be a fine regular season goalie.

I am fine with 50/50. You have to assume at this point Freddie is gonna miss a lot of time with injury so it will end up being closer to that 2/3.

Paying a backup or a 50/50 goalie $4.5M a year is ridiculous. Knowing he'll be injured at some point and likely miss 20 games, play in maybe 25 or 30 behind Kochetkov, $4.5M is also irresponsible and not smart.

    • there is one common denominator in the 2003 & 2015 Carolina Panthers teams they both had ELITE top tier Qb play.  it would require a MVP type of season from Bryce Young to have the same type of success that Jake Delhomme had in  2003 & or Cam Newton in 2015 & lead this team to a SuperBowl is this going to happen or is there any reason to believe Bryce Young is capable of playing similar to Jake Delhomme in 2003 or Cam Newton in 2015 ? well no there is no absolutely NO reason whatsoever to believe that this is going to happen in 2026 ..just saying
    • I'd actually like to see Cherelus get a fair shot to win the job in camp. Wallace is decent in drop zone coverage, but he gets abused in the play action game and is often times out of position in the run game. It might just be me, but I swear every time I watch Wallace play, I see multiple plays a game were it looks like he's just trying to be blocked. Watching Cherelus last year he at least looked like he was trying to hit someone on every play. Wallace plays like a LB who doesn't trust what he sees and it makes him passive and cautious versus Cherelus who regardless of if his decision is right or wrong goes at it 100%.
    • Agreed.  Hasn’t happened to me either, but I feel very strongly about it.  That’s not just one of the worst things a woman could do to a man, it’s a power inherent to only women and is one of the worst things a HUMAN being can do to another.  A man can’t “hide” a pregnancy or maternity.  It’s impossible.  And that sucks for anyone that has to go through that. I always got a weird vibe off her and just found her very unlikeable.  Annoying even.  I’ve always been good at reading people and there was just something about her to me that was off-putting, somewhere under the surface.  And here we are…  she is despicable.
