It’s comes down to special teams.

Recommended Posts

We are 0-10 on the PP in 2 games.  Our penalty kill has let this team down so much.  Guys it’s this simple. Our kill has allowed  7 goals in 6 games. Our special teams are in dismay.  That’s why we loose.

Can’t score a PP goal and allow to many penalties with at least 2 a game in this series.

Jeff Daniels has to go. Rod is going to end up getting himself fired sooner rather than later by holding onto all of his assistants.

Rod isn’t coming back unless the team makes a deep playoff run. I think that’s what the hold up is

I'll find the exact stats at some point but we have been the best PK in the league regular season under Rod since 2018 and bottom 5 in the playoffs since then. PP has been top 10-12 regular season and bottom 5 in the playoffs. Special teams falling off in the playoffs is 100% a trend at this point and enough that would cause me to seriously evaluate the coaching staff. There just aren't any excuses for this anymore especially adding the talent we've added in the past year. Special teams is the only reason we haven't won a Cup yet or gotten further in the playoffs, and that is completely on coaching not the roster.

I kinda feel that too. Feels like a Marvin Lewis situation. Bengals made the playoffs every season but that was it.

Rod has absolutely been my favorite coach of all time, but its not working in the playoffs.  Its just not.  Hindsight, we should have went with the goalie rotation we did the regular season.  It was working.  Freddie is coincidently getting worse in the playoffs.  You see the correlation there.    However, missing Pesce and Fast is not helping.  Benching Noesen in Ot last night when net from goals was working is mind numbing.  Rod needs to be held accountable.

We also need our shutdown line back.  I know fast is out but Staal Maartnook and "insert" need to play.  But like you said, nothing matters if your special teams are poo.  and boy are they poo.  7 power play goals allowed in 6 games is how bad the PK was to start the year.  Yall remeber how awful we were to start the year.  Power play is atroicus.  Its 0-11 is insane how bad that it is.  You cant and wont win against the presidents club winner playing like that.  Lastly, goalie play is average to bad.  You arent going to win allowing 8 goals in 2 games.  We need our goalies to make saves.

Discipline.  We don't have it.  We know the Rags are going to flop.  We know the refs are going to fug us.  Its what it is.  How do you fix it?  Mindful of your stick.  Forecheck...hit it and see it.  Dont give them the chance to flop or call penalties.

Rod needs to be held accountable.  Its not working.  Playoff Rod is playoff rod for a reason.  not because we made it up.

Lastly, no its not over.  These are correctable things.  We could easily win the next two at home and boom, GAME ON!  But for that to happen, Discipline, PK, PP, and goalie must be better. Its alot more than just winning 5v5.  They all tie together.  If I had to pick 1 to be good.  PK.  Stopping that like we did all year, would solve most problems.

    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
    • I parked in this lot a few times. It would take over and hour to get out of that lot after games. Never again
