This recruiting class (33 of 34 5 stars have gone to SEC / BIG10 teams) and this CFP Committee ruling has shown you what way the sport is going.

Get in one of those two conferences or just make up the numbers. Sad times.

That’s pretty insane.  And the one odd ball is to independent Notre Dame.

Clemson has had a top 10 class the last 7 years straight.  Think their class is logging around 30 something right now.  Probably why Dabo was just talking about finally having access to money now and no one going to have more than Clemson.  Got that nice church money ready to roll after seeing his class I guess.   But I still don’t expect it going to portal kids.

Well lucky indiana that they don't have to go to a championship game lmao.

Saw some SMU fans saying they should just boycott the title game because of the all risk no reward nature of it.  They would 100% be in if the ACC didn’t play a title game.  Now potentially out if they lose.

It's actually a stupidly huge flaw.

It happens to Auburn back in 2017. Beat Bama to get into the SEC CG, lost to UGA in that game and Bama leapfrogged them to go to the playoffs. Super fuged up.

SEC West champion: Auburn
SEC champion: Georgia
National champion: Alabama

2017 was the year I stopped believing the CFP/college football as a whole had any legitimacy. It proved that no matter what Alabama does, they will get to play for a national title.

Honestly with CFP, they should just do away with conference titles games.

I still think they should just remove the auto bid qualifier.  Let them play, but the games count.  The argument they only hurt isn't true.  It just only hurts sometimes, just like it can only help sometimes.  Just like tough out of conference games.  Shane Beamer was talking about how they need to rethink even playing tough out of conference games.....ignoring the Clemson game they just got off of is what got him into the convo of possibly making it to begin with.

I think there the field should be 8 teams, no byes and no auto entries.

His point is, they played it and won and it didn't make a difference.

Without that game, they weren’t even going to be debated and have an argument though.  So that game still helped their resume .  It was close, easily could have just come down to the randomness of who was on this committee this year and their bias.

I think think this current window will be short regardless.  Current format is dumb.  And college football as we know is breaking anyway.  This format won't last long anyway because the conferences will keep changing. Money is doing what it does.  Already seeing it in recruiting.   Eventually, there is just going to be a "main conference".  Boise St isn't going to belong in the same realm a Bama is operating in.  They won't have the money, players and then no resume to even justify being in the talk even with a perfect record.

It should be simple: Make your title game and win (in), lose (committee talks, but probably in). Don't make your title game (out). The Power 5 will be back so that could easily give you 10 of the 12 teams. So that leaves 2 spots a year per se. Do you give it to two smaller conference champs? Sounds perfect. Teams out will say, But But We're Ranked! To which you reply, too bad, you couldn't even make your title game. Fans would MUCH rather see a 1-2 loss Louisiana, Tulane, Marshall, UNLV, Bowling Green, etc. than a 3 loss Alabama. BUT ... big Media wants Bama so my entire post is moot.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
