Koochie should be our 1

Kochetkov will be the #1 when Andersen gets hurt.

his meltdown in the playoffs last year wore him thin with the crowd.

Well, at least he got to the post season. Typically, he's been injured by the time the season ended.

Andersen is not an elite goalie and Kochetkov has yet to prove himself as a #1, let alone being elite. And if there's one thing we know about the Canes- they aren't spending money on an elite goalie.

Crappy playoff goaltending cost the Canes the last few years - that was their window to go for the cup. -  you are right Freddie is not elite and this year is a bridge year so Koochie should be the number 1 and maybe he could steal some games and give us a shot at the playoffs, I don't see that happening if Rod stays with Freddie.

I tend to disagree about Koochie. From December on last year he was the 3rd ranked goalie in the league. Koochie is very good with levels of absolute elite play.

I agree that the window is shut THIS season. I disagree that it's shut long term all of our best players are just beginning to enter their prime (except Slavin whose game will age well) we will have close to 25m in cap space next season with all of our core players under contract, We will have Alexander Nikishin (Pretty much everyone thinks he's a day one impact player) personality I wouldn't be shocked to see FUS as a dynamic playmaker 2C next year.

So yes the window isn't open this year but IMO it will reopen in a year or two.

Until he shows he can be consistent with his positioning he's not elite he absolutely is a high ceiling guy who can steal games but elite requires more consistent performance than he has shown.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
