I think it's important to be realistic about all this "winning for the culture" talk.

Did we change the culture in 2019 with that brief Kyle Allen win streak?

Did we change the culture in 2020 winning a few games with Bridgewater?

Did we change the culture in 2021 with that 3 game win streak with Sam Darnold?

Did we change the culture in 2022 winning meaningless games with Steve Wilks?

Last I checked even after all that our culture fully bottomed out last year and the beginning of this year.

Let's just maintain perspective that sustained winning is the only thing that is going to change this culture. One or two wins here and there against awful teams are good for a brief high but that's it. No more no less. What will truly start to change the tide is defeating really good teams. Until then. You can talk about culture all you want. We're still just spinning our wheels.

The point is not that winning a few games will change the culture. It's more that intentionally setting up your team to lose never changes things for the positive.

I fully agree with getting rid of expensive players that can't help you long term for draft picks.  This is a strategic move and if properly implemented, can help. Cowboys did that with Herschel Walker. And got a few SB's out of it. And of getting rid of players that don't work out. But just dumping the team for slew of draft picks doest work.

You know the common theme to those teams you named? Each season we had either a new QB or a new Coach. It's hard to build a culture when you're constantly going after the shiny new toy that's gonna save the day! And most of the people in here want to continue the cycle by getting rid of Bryce like that's going to automatically change anything.

There is no debate with you. You have to call people dumb just be they don't agree with you. I can tell you never played sports in your life. You have a loser mentality.

Win games consistently is how you build winning habits. We haven't done that in a long time. A few wins doesn't change that point blank.

Nothing else to talk about here buddy.

How do you purposely tank? Do you tell the players not to play hard? Do you tell the coaches to call bad plays? We're already playing our young players to develop so that can't be it so please explain what you would want the Panthers to do?

We absolutely need to reset this QB room I don't know how or why that's up for debate with some people. This narrative that suddenly we can win with Bryce Young when our run game is carrying the load against teams with poor run defenses is just waiting to burst. We will not compete with and beat the best teams in the league with 126 yards passing and 1 touchdown it is simple as that. If anyone wants to entertain a notion otherwise that's their business but reality is reality.

18/25 151 yards 2tds 2int that was a stat line for Patrick Mahomes in a win vs Cincinnati ealier this year. Why would we need to pass the ball when the running game was working so well?  If we started slinging it all over the place ya'll would've started crying about Canalas not running it enough lol. The huddle will find a way to complain regardless

My rebuttal is I can pull up bad stat lines for good QBs ALL DAY lol. At the end of the day NONE of these QBs in this draft are better than Bryce. But if we choose one I hope I'm wrong and he ends up a hall of famer but I doubt it. Making change just for the sake of making change doesnt make sense.

You trade away your best players in season for draft picks. Like we did with CMC. Doesn’t mean you are going to lose but a team going all in to win doesn’t do that.

That's a bad game for mahomes, that would be one of the best games of Busts career.

The guy sucks and limits the entire offense, if you cannot see that then you don't know what you are watching.

You are confusing smart strategic moves with tanking.

Sending one or two high priced players away for draft picks isn't tanking. Tanking is trading or cutting all or most of your best players in the hope that your will have several great drafts and in a few years have a team of young great players.

Its what the Dolphins did in 2019, and they still suck.

Historically bad Dolphins and the trouble with tanking - Sports Illustrated

Quote

“Some teams in the NFL, they have high draft picks every year, and yet they still stay at the bottom,” Johnson says. He points to the Eric Dickerson trade in 1987, in which the Rams sent the All-Pro running back to Indianapolis for a package that included three first-round and three second-round picks. Armed with that haul, the Rams selected 28 players over the next two drafts—none of whom made even one Pro Bowl with the team.

Quote

“The thing that concerns me is, when you when you have a bad football team, and as bad as what the Dolphins have looked, the remaining players get bad habits,” Johnson says. “If you’re a professional football player and you don’t think that you have a chance to win, it’s frustrating. You have players like Fitzpatrick who want to get out of there. You don’t prepare as well because you don’t think you’re going to win anyway. There’s a danger of creating a culture of losing to where bringing in players the next year won’t help. You don’t want to ever eliminate the goal at the end; you don’t want to eliminate hope for the remaining team.”

this is one of the most the stupifying thing about it.

do you just tell the players to not try? half ass it? put in the worst players? no game plan? intentionally throw games?

    • I’m honestly not trying to argue with you or talk bad about Scourton, I like him and I’ve watched all of his Purdue stuff/videos you linked previously. Just like I’ve watched all of Princely’s Florida stuff I’m only pointing out the weight thing because I’m excited about the idea of him being 255-260 and being more of a stand up edge here in Carolina like he was at Purdue versus at A&M And like you, I have a crap load of experience doing the whole cutting/weight/fitness thing and I know how crappy/sluggish I feel when I’m holding as little as an extra 8-10lbs of unnecessary weight. So for Scourton to come out and say he’s 255-260 now and feels good that’s exciting based on what he’s put on film at 280 and not feeling his best
    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game. They've created a nearly unending list of "what ifs". Hell, every HS, college, and pro team out there has a long list of them. It's also a good reminder that there's no such thing as a routine major injury. Even though sports medicine has improved dramatically in recent decades, major injuries are still somewhat of a coin flip on how a guy is going to emerge from it.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
