Rather you tell me about this winning culture and how it helps the team to win games to go 3-14 vs 2-15. That win is going to put the team on the right track for the future right

I understand the 'why' you think it's a good idea.

I'm asking how you do it. What do you do? What do you tell the players and the coaches?

How do you intentionally 'tank'?

We don't have to "tank". We suck. We have barely beaten two other teams in recent weeks who also suck. If we played the Saints and Giants 10 times we'd probably go roughly .500 in those games. We just happened to win those coin flips. We aren't beating any other teams who aren't headed for top 5 picks in April. #1 is looking like a long shot at the moment but top 5 is well within reach.

I understand all that, but thats not the issue. The issue is people are getting mad that this team isn't lying down. My question is how do you get your team to lie down.

What do you do to get your team to quit trying do you don't win "pointless" games?

You play out the season like everyone else, see how the team develops, you fall in the draft where you fall, and then find the best players you can.  You get nowhere trying to dictate something that is mostly out of your control.  Obsessing with controlling the uncontrollable gets you nowhere in life.

I mean, are people wanting us to try to be worse? Show up to the coin toss with a white flag? Have a GM coordinate with a coach who instills this idea in the players -- so in case we have a 4th quarter lead against another sh*tty team, they let off the brakes? I don't even get the concern or how that objective is feasible.

The "tank" discussion is just ridiculous in the NFL.  Too many factors, too much coordination, honestly, it's quite the convoluted strategy that would blow up anyways.  Much more bake-able in the NBA.   GMs just stay on track with how they're trying to build until they're fired or become perennial contenders.

We're a bad team, with a tank commander QB, and have beat some spiraling squads.  We're likely to be a top pick, just enjoy the ride through the hellscape.   Geez.

You already know the answer to this. There isn’t one. There’s nothing you can tell coaches or players to talk them into this. Unless you can somehow promise every player on the team that this season stats don’t count, the film on this year will be deleted, and all players will get signed to player-friendly (not team-friendly basically) long term deals. Then you go up to tepper and promise 3 super bowls after the jay-z 7 years are up.

players are playing for the money left on contracts and the contract coming. Coaches are more or less doing the same. And this isn’t even adding in pride and/or egos.

i get you’re just trying to make the other guy look dumb. But let’s end this lol the idea is dumb and isn’t happening. Only fans believe in tanking… and that’s okay. Root away for the tank. Whatever makes you happy.

In 2022, drafting #2 overall gets you CJ Stroud instead of Bryce Young.

Your turn! How do you get the team to tank?

If the FO had half a brain and actually watched tape vs a 15 minute play breakdown at the dinner table, the pick would have been Stroud and the 2nd pick would have been Young.

The team itself doesn't tank. The FO and the HC cause the team to tank by who they play. You can't ask the players to not play, they're not going to do that. But the HC and FO can put them in a bad position to win by deciding not to play guys with nagging injuries or by playing younger guys who they need to see what they've got, or by calling a mediocre game plan. It's been attempted before. Most recent memory would be Rivera with Wash/Car and Wash/Philly. They ended up winning the 2nd, their division with a losing record only to be bounced out of the playoffs. It cost them about a dozen spots in draft position.

What's actually insane is that we are so far away from competing for anything real, and there are 9 teams worse than us LOL.

I think its insane that people think there are teams worse than us. I get that people are looking at records, but that doesn’t really tell us our situation. We should definitely only have one win. We lucked into our last two wins. The other team had to hand the game over to us multiple times for us to win. No doubt we are still #1… in being bad

That's all he doing and it's not working and his buddy @Jon Snow is the same way.

What's crazy is i never said tank i said I don't see the point in winning against dumpster teams in the last 8 games to feel good about a qb who can't lead a game winning drive or win a playoff game

You’re kind of hinting at it though. And im saying “kind of” to be nice lol

I don't want them to lose i just don't see the benefit of winning when the roster looks like this..if our pro bowl qb was out and we had a few all pro player heck yeah beat everyone but when the roster is so devoid of talent...

So we should stop the development of all of our young players and say hey guys you’ve played well enough to shelf it until next year and tank this season for a draft that doesn’t even have a generational talent at the top for us to grab.

players: hell yeah coach, you got it

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
