Uh, the Panthers got both Otah and Brown by way of trading draft picks...

Or does the OP mean trading draft picks for players?

Good point. The Panther generally pick good and should not trade picks for a player. Trading picks for picks is another matter. Not sure if the trading of last years first was the best decision but they did get an extra 2nd and a 4th and that might turn out ok or beter.

I was thinking the same thing. The whole trading next year's first away started with Otah and continued with Brown. I really wouldn't be surprised at all if we continued the tradition despite Hurney saying we probably wouldn't. With all the smoke screens each team distributes about the draft, nothing is off the table at this point.

As for trading draft picks for players, depends on who we would trade for. We traded 2 picks in this draft already when we traded a fifth round pick for Tank Tyler and a 6th rounder for Leonard Louis. I doubt it would ever happen but I would give Washington a 3rd rounder this year and a 3rd rounder next year for Haynesworth for example. I would also give a 4th this year and a 4th next year for Osi. That way we spent a 5th, 6th, 3rd, and 4th this year to totally remake our defensive line and become a dominant defensive line.

Who thinks if we spent a 3rd and 4th on a DT and DE we would find better players than Haynesworth and Osi Umenyiora both who are pro-bowlers. I would rather take proven veterans over potential especially given our track record with 2nd and 3rd rounders.

We know that both Haynesworth and Umenyiora have the potential to be elite players, but they're also risky. Haynesworth curled up and died as soon as he got that big contract and Umenyiora hasn't been the same since Strahan retired.

Haynesworth still had more tackles and sacks than both of our DTs. 4 sacks may be "bad" for him but would be awesome for us. By comparison Kris Jenkins in 2008 only had 3.5 sacks and was All-Pro.

As for Osi he had 7 sacks coming back from a serious injury. He is supposedly fully recovered and will in all liklihood have double digit sacks this year. Given the picks and salaries, the reward is worth the risk IMO. On the other hand that is why I am here on the internet instead of working in a front office somewhere.

the FO has said they are sticking to what has worked for them, so don't expect any big name trades. We will be likely to trade away our 5-7 rounders for next year for some guys you have never heard of though, to fill positions..

As to the original topic..we have gotten quite a few of our new players from draft day trades i.e. trading down to nab beason plus kalil..they aren't afraid to give up something that works..and honestly I don't see richardson vetoing them from doing it unless everyone else agrees they shouldn't trade for more picks(hurney has said they decide what to do by committee, not final say).

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
