ESPN is reporting the Bears are asking to interview McCarthy.  I guess his contract hasn't quite expired yet.

Correct.

Someone pointed out McCarthy has a pretty good record against the Bears.

technically it's either already expired or does so in a day or two, it's just that the Cowboys have exclusive negotiating rights with him until the 14th.

So teams need permission to interview him right now, but if McCarthy waits another 8 days, he's free to do whatever he wants without Cowboys permissions.

Not like it'd be the first time...

There are a lot of warts on most of these jobs. The Jets are a fuging mess with a bad owner. If Dallas gives up on McCarthy, you have to deal with a bad GM/owner. The Jags you are inheriting a suspect GM and a suspect owner. Also married to a pretty middling QB on a massive contract. New England is a bad ownership scenario(see comments about Mayo firing from Kraft) and a terrible roster.

The Bears are actually a decent spot. Lots of talent.

Do you believe in Williams, though? 🤔

...All the hype around Johnson...bet he'll be a bust...hes an OC...nothing more nothing less... Hes looking for the perfect landing spot to max his chances at success...smart move if he wants to coach...still think he'll flame out where ever he goes.

My guess is.....

Johnson ends up passing on all these opportunities this offseason.

I think passing on the Bears job would be a mistake. I don’t think his coaching opportunities are going to get much better than that.

Potentially interesting...

Poles calls Lions OC Ben Johnson a "brilliant play caller" but says that what the Bears need is a "leader of men".

May very well just be posturing, but it could be that's the profile of what the Bears want in a head coach.

Ron Rivera to the Bears

As crazy as it sounds I think the Saints job would be a better landing spot. I have mixed feelings about the thought of that.

    • FLA showed everyone it’s not about superstars. they bullied the best line in the NHL into obscurity. they played hard, were in the right positions, and ran over everything that got in their way.
    • That’s really not what you said and when I even expressed doubt as to your intentions with the post you doubled down and remained unclear on whether you were trying to drag Dean Smith for whatever reason. You just got the facts wrong, which if you don’t follow the local college programs like you say then maybe you just were mistaken and thought Smith didn’t win championships or have legit superstars, and that is ok, but you just doubled down when my first post was more corrective than anything. I’m not sure what you expect posting objectively false things like “RBA has a lot of wins with nothing to show for it like Dean Smith” (paraphrasing) on a message board with plenty of UNC fans. I’m not taking it as a personal affront, we can agree to disagree, Dean Smith’s legacy fortunately will not be affected by this conversation. Screw the (Florida) Panthers?
    • Bring in the free agents and trades.  Florida is the best team and unless Tulsky makes it happen, it’s more of the same…which isn’t bad…but it’s time to win a goddamn cup.
