LaFell Discussion Here.

i wanted damien williams, ark/usc guy, but lafell was right after that at wr. both are good wrs, but not the greatest athletes of the wrs left. with lafell and jarrett someone will come out as #2 here. as for the slot, kenny moore and another guy would be nice.

lafell is a solid target, idk if he is as good as bowe was in college, bu he is damn good. the small hands is a concern to be sure, but he had the worst qb in the sec the last 2 years. 2nd he had some absolutely crazy easy drops in key spots, but made a few key catches. inconsistancy and the hand size are why he fell this far. he is super physical and sneaky good at his craft (well not great at always catching the easy balls).

i think williams was a safer pick, but damn titans got him.

4th could very likely be a wr (please god let it be ford). we have a #1 on the team, 2 guys to battle for the #2 role, now we need to look for a slot/field stretching wr. i like andre roberts, jacoby ford, and gilyard in that spot. damn dt run is brutal this year.

i'm not a college football guy, but i watched hours of Tate clips last night when everyone was talking about him. honestly, it seemed like 75% of his highlights were really Clausen highlights. great throws and good catches.

but this LaFell kid looks like a monster.

Love the LaFell pick. I've followed LSU football for years, and he's a great receiver. He played in a run-first offense, but stilll made big play after big play. He runs good routes, blocks well, and catches important passes. I honestly believe he'll be a 10-year starter in this league.

LaFell is really Moose II. There's no closer receiver to Moose in this draft, and I think he starts on day one and makes a solid contribution. I'm not worried about him getting separation, he's sneaky at finding openings and selling routes to get open. He's also got better hands than you think. The one worry I have about him is his reaction when he takes some NFL-sized hits, but I think that the SEC has prepared him for that.

Put Smitty and LaFell on the edges and Edwards in the slot, and you have the makings of a pretty dynamic offense. It's going to be fun to watch. :)

BTW, our 2005 draft resulted in four NFL starters. They didn't all start from us, but if any of the guys we get is as good as Thomas Davis has turned out to be, I'll take it.

I wasn't too happy about the Clausen pick, or this one. Clausen I can understand b/c of the value, could be best pick in the draft in that sense.

I just wanted us to take Golden Tate, I'm still pissed we didn't trade back up to get him.

Lafell, I still don't feel great about. I don't like the lack of quickness and I don't think it translates well to getting separation in the NFL. Why did we do it? I think Lafell is the new Moose. They wanted a big, strong guy they could line up on the edge and blow that CB off the field.

I just really hope he can contribute more than what I expect in the passing game. And I'm not listening to any of the fluff out there during minicamp and TC and all that about how great he is - SHOW IT TO ME. There's this guy named Dwayne Jarrett, I've already read the book and saw the movie. Do it when it counts Lafell, and you got my fandom.

Edwards made me feel a lot better about the whole day. I was super pissed that we took Clausen over Tate... I was pissed we took Lafell over Taylor Price... But when we took Edwards, I just got excited. I thought we reached and paid a big price, but no telling who would've took him and where, but I sense it would've been soon.

He fills the quick/shifty/fast athlete role we need on this team, mainly at WR, but throw in the fact that he can step in at QB on trick plays and the opponent will have no idea what's coming. That pick gave me hope.

I am still furious that we didn't take Golden Tate when we had the chance. Now we have Brandon LaFell who is a poor man's Dwayne Jarrett...yeah, I realize what I just said. That's my point!

I even had a Bucs fan tell me he felt bad for me tonight.

Yeah, there isn't any bias in this post!

I wanted Edwards -- but not for a second round pick. Still, he's on the team now and I'm happy to have him here. I'm just not thrilled with what we gave up.

I mean, why not draft a bonafide receiver, or take someone like Everson Griffon or a defensive tackle?

Oh well. Like I said, I do like Edwards and can't wait to see what we do with him. But that's the other discouraging thing about it all -- I don't think Jeff Davidson is going to know what to do with some of these guys.
