Anyone left who does not believe in Bryce ?

Believe is a weird word for this. Believing in him does not make him better.

Do I have confidence in him? Kinda. He did much better the last half of the season. I'm fine with going into next season with him as the starter. However, it feels like a trap at times and I really want them to go find somebody as an insurance policy that isn't 40 years old.

What happens if he "loses his confidence again" or goes back to what he was doing. Then we are talking about drafting a QB again. OR what happens if he tears an achilles or something. He has been durable so far but you never know.

I wouldn't go do anything crazy but I would have a competent guy behind him. There will be cheap options to pick from:

  • Drew Lock
  • Jacoby Brissett
  • Jameis Winston
  • Justin Fields
  • Carson Wentz
  • Cooper Rush

etc.

If he was cheap I would like to see what Canales could do with Fields. If Field could read defenses and throw with good mechanics, he has all the physical talent to be a great starter as well as backup.

5 td's in one game is beyond impressive.  He has earned his right for this to be HIS team until he shows otherwise.

It was impressive for sure but Daniel Jones has scored 5 TDs in a game before & Nick Foles scored 7 in a game. Young looks great though and hope he keeps it up.

I agree.

What I like most about Bryce is that he has played some of his best ball during crunch time.  By the end of the season, I felt like if he had the ball in his hands in a close game, we had a good shot at winning.  And that is what the great qb's do.  I felt the same way about Cam from 2013-2017.

That being said, he has to prove he can get better, and play well consistently, just like anyone else.

Didn't say that, just saying making the pro-bowl one time doesn't mean much to me.

It would be a good sign though. When a Panther makes the pro bowl they usually deserve it. Small market teams don't win the popularity contests too often.

Yeah, I mean I think for me, the 5 TDs was very impressive, but 21 total TDs over 12 games started indicates a decent-to-high level offensive production, especially given the circumstances (defense, mainly). So reason to be optimistic, but like you say, others have given reason for optimism before and not delivered in the longer term.

Fwiw, I could see Daniel Jones having a resurgence elsewhere - if he isn't broken anyway.

Believe he should start in the league and for us next year? Yeah for sure.

Believe in the height of his ceiling - in any way? Believe he's our franchise savior? Not yet.  He's played decently for 3/4th of a year, which isn't really enough to be sure of much. Hopeful, for sure, and looking forward to next year.

pretty much where I'm at

Biggest thing that concerns me is if he comes back next season and is overthinking again. It was clear the whole 2nd half of the season he was coached to get the ball out to the first or 2nd read within 2.5 seconds, and if it’s not there throw it away or make something happen with your legs.

Now he could get better for sure at reading defenses to move to 3-4th read but I hope he doesn’t try to go overboard. Conversely, an offseason with his receivers and some time to look over film might do wonders.

Every team has fans that doubt the QB if they haven't won a Super Bowl.  You'd have to be pretty naive to think that even Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen don't have doubters within their teams own fan bases.  Bryce will have doubters until he wins a Super Bowl here.  So the topic of the thread is stupid.

The other half of the equation is that it doesn't even matter.  Bryce is under contract and there's no impetus for changing that at this time.  There's 17+ more games (barring injury) to evaluate him, and for him to continue to improve.

There's no need to draw a line in the sand right now unless you just enjoy doing that.

    • CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that starters will play in the first two preseason games, stopping just short of admitting he made a mistake last season holding them out. The plan includes playing quarterback Bryce Young, who got off to a historically bad start to the 2024 regular season that got him benched after opening 0-2. Carolina opens their preseason schedule Friday at home against Cleveland, followed by an August 15 road game at Houston and August 21 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.   Canales said he will evaluate after the first two games whether starters will play in the third game. "Kind of going through it last year, we had a mix of veteran players, but [this is] predominantly a pretty young team,'' said Canales, who has at least six new starters to the defense that was the worst in the league a year ago. "I just can't pass up the opportunities. The reps in games are valuable. "[But] it goes to the night before, when guys know they're going to go out there, they've got to make a decision to play football. So it starts the night before with the prep. You start thinking about your plan, taking care of your body, making sure you get your rest.''   https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45880676/panthers-starters-play-first-2-preseason-games-says-coach
    • You call the Cowboys purely for information, but we don't have the assets to pull off any realistic trade. Also, even if they would consider any trade, it's more likely they want to do it with an AFC team.
