Special Forces Finale - Newton

...made it to the very end but failed the final challenge by giving up too soon.

Hated to see it. He got reeeeeally close.

He was holding steady thru interrogation. I suspect he didn't get the caged water deal and compromised. Jenner and Kayla both came clean after and were rewarded for fessing.  I think the woman interrogator should have gone up against Cam.

DS staff told Cam he'd done an amazing job. They heavily respected him, even called him a "frontrunner" to finish the whole thing. He just blinked a little too soon.

Golden Tate failed for the opposite reason. He was ready to let Kayla Nicole die (figuratively) rather than give up (yikes )

One funny moment that'll likely end up on social media: The interrogators forced everyone to strip down in a really cold environment. Newton, underneath his military clothes, was wearing some wild looking, very colorful boxer briefs

Side Note: Pro surfer Alana Blanchard was apparently wearing a pretty skimpy thong under hers because they had to censor her backside.

I'm glad my son watched this show because it sort of shined the light on some aspects of these hero athletes.  They are just human as the next person.   Throughout the show, Cam and Tate often showed they got some straight up weaknesses and flaws (some sort of surprising) that he didn't seem to expect.  Tate often was rattled.  Cam ultimately letting a bucket of water get the best of him was a surprise to him too.  

out of all the people on the show, in a survival setting....the BMX dude was probably the guy you wanted.  Out of the ladies, probably Kelce's old girl

Carey Hart, yeah. Everybody thought he was great (called him "Sensei" out of respect). Only reason he didn't finish was an injury. 

Kayla Nicole (Kelce's ex) was the only female to survive. The only male was Brody Jenner (Bruce/Caitlin's son, who actually had a lot to say about his dad).

Kudos to Brody. In three seasons of this show, he's the only male to finish selection, and that included several pro athletes (Danny Amendola was on last year). All the other winners to date have been female, including at least one Bachelorette.

I think Cam just couldn't handle the disrespect, he was like "I got paid enough".

Please keep in mind that this is "reality TV" so editing and scripting are basically 98% of the show, not what actually happened/would happen. This is just a fact of this sort of "entertainment."

Yeah but I tend to think these kinds of shows are ran straight moreso than something like a Real Housewives or Jersey Shore deal where they are pitting people against each other. All the drama here I think was legitimate between the people involved. Obviously, when you have outsiders in a simulation of a training (which is notably different than an actual training), some of the tension they want to generate in the tasks is going to be lost because the participant has to actively engage mentally with it. I don't think Cam often did. I think the end kind of showed that because he wasn't putting himself mentally in the "I've been captured, I could die here" space. He was "I am cam Newton. This is a show. These people aren't gonna kill me and I'm not gonna take disrespect" (as he stated several times in the show).

 

Brody got a WAY more intense final test and handled. Props to him lol

They are not straightforward. This is something widely known and documented about literally any reality TV show in the past 30 years. 

People are just easily fooled by TV.

It's still real to me dammit!

But seriously, how much can a producer really influence here? Seemed like any drama was related to direct interaction or reaction to task performance. For sure they are told to play to the cameras, make it interesting, but I push this closer to fear factor than survivor.

There is hundreds or thousands of hours of footage. They can edit you to look however they want. 

These has never been a shred of any reality in reality TV. 

That's my point. Way more than you think is scripted to an extent, as well.
