He's right, Jarrett is the #2 WR until LaFell beats him for the job, just like Cantwell is the #2 QB until Clausen beats him for that job. Generally speaking, a veteran is given the job going into camp even if its expected that a younger player is going to beat him for the spot. Its not just a John Fox mentality either, there's plenty of coaches that think younger players should have to prove their worth to get a starting role.

I have to agree with Darin Gantt that since Jarrett is now the veteran, competing with rookie Brandon LaFell,it is his until proven otherwise.

Training camp and preseason should give us a better indication on how where they both stand.

I'm just glad we finally seem to have gotten some quality competition for Jarrett. It killed me last season that none of our other young WR's(D. Jackson, K. Moore, could seem to beat out Jarrett for his spot. I'm tired of him dickin around it's time for him to step up or get out of the f***ing way.

In the John Fox "Run First Offense", the 2nd Starting WR will be required to be a good blocker. That is why Jarret and LaFell are the very likely options. Both have the size to fit that bill.

You will see Edwards as the 3rd WR...when we want to stretch the field. He will either play in the slot, or play on the outside and slide Smitty to the Slot.

The remaining guys won't see the field much except in 4 Receiver sets....which I actually hope we run more of.

What I would like to see is a lot more running from a 3 WR set.

With Smith, Jarrett, and Laffell that is 3 really good run blocking WR's. Throw King either on the line or off and a single set back of Williams or Stewart.

With our OL and a D stretched to cover the 3 WR's, that could mean some huge holes for either RB.

the job is his job to lose. if someone beats him out of it...cool. if he can pull of a lot more of what he did that last week against the saints...awesome.

i have no problem with him getting another shot. i also have no problem moving on if he can't hack it given the ne situation he is in...no clear cut starter in front of him. a QB not named jake. a new WR coach who he can work a bit better under that isn't old enough to be his great grandfather. all of those things could very well be what he needs to get over his suck hump. i hope it is. the more weapons available on offense we have the better.

Competition is good for this team. Jarrett is #2 but he has little room for error. We have a lot of young unproven talent. Jarrett definitely needs to catch some balls to survive.

I don't know if we'll use Edwards to stretch the field. He's got a lot to learn. Adjusting to the ball is one of those things that takes some experience. He'll probably be used more for slants, outs, smoke routes etc.

Jarrett cant run routes but can catch the ball, Plan and Simple. Now the only question is can LaFell run routes and catch the ball. Thats what I want to know.
