What if the Panthers drafted all those WR's to allow Jarrett the #2 by default and hiding thier inept ability to draft and develop a WR so when the axe comes they can point to Jarrett making it as a start on the resume?

I don't know if we'll use Edwards to stretch the field. He's got a lot to learn. Adjusting to the ball is one of those things that takes some experience. He'll probably be used more for slants, outs, smoke routes etc.

I did not say we definitely would. I just know that Smitty really would love to be in the slot...and would be damn near un-coverable there. For that to happen, Edwards would be the logical choice on the outside. Whether he can make that step this season is the big question.

Jarrett has good hands, and is a big physical guy. But he just seems so slow. He looked slower than Moose last year, although maybe that was because Moose ran better routes. But his 40 time wasn't much better than Barnidge.

Maybe Barnidge can play WR. ;)

Jarret always looked painfully slow in practice and on the field......that is the reason that my buddy and I have nicknamed him "Mud". Because he looks like he is running in mud.

Jarrett and LaFell are both faster than Moose and close in speed. Moose was very adept at gaining separation on the break by using his body and arms to knock the defender back and gain a step or two.

The problem with Jarrett has been that off the break he isn't very quick or physical and allows the defender to easy stay with him which keeps the quarterback from seeing him as an open option.

It remains to be seen whether LaFell has learned the technique of gaining separation from the defender coming out of the break. He has the upper body strength to muscle the defender but won't likely outquick anyone. If he can use his body to shield the defender and show good hands when it thrown his way, he should get playing time.

It wouldn't surprise me if Goodson gets some time as our 3rd receiver playing in the slot.

I don't think this Goodson slot thing is ever going to work out. Especially w/ Edwards who I think will contribute year one imo the front runner for those play sets.

Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald believes the Panthers' starting flanker job is Dwayne Jarrett's "until he coughs it up."

Gantt calls Jarrett blowing the opportunity "possible." In the Burning Questions piece for our 2010 Fantasy Preview, however, Gantt noted that Jarrett "always looks great in practice," making it similarly possible that the fourth-year wideout's biggest obstacle so far has been coach John Fox's veteran deference. Jarrett is now the veteran, competing with rookie Brandon LaFell.

What do you guys think?

I included a poll, but the only options are LaFell and Jarrett because Edwards and Moore really don't have a chance.

I suppose Darin Gantt, like everyone else, has his own opinion.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
