I caught over 100 punts in camp, that's not an excuse anymore

Nope, Jarrett never caught a break as a rookie- that was my point. But being as I'm an admitted USC homer, I'll explain why the two situations are very similar in nature. WRs at USC do one thing- catch passes. They are not conditioned nor are they playing a position to block in Pete Carroll's schemes. WRs at USC may decoy, they may drag defenders all the way down the field and they may run the occasional pick play, but they are there for one reason- run routes and catch passes.

So, when Jarrett gets drafted and has to learn all the ancillary stuff on top of catching passes against bigger, better and faster athletes than the college opponents he faced, the uneducated fan then calls him a bust.

Armanti Edwards, please pick up the white courtesy phone...

He was also placed on the inactive list for half the year because of "performance" aka he sucked. I havent given Edwards any breaks, but until he screws up in regular season games, he hasnt been as bad as Jarrett his rookie year

AE is lacking confidence.. I've seen what he's worth when his confidence is peaking. I loved watching him in the 4th quarter and you can just tell by his demeanor he couldnt be stopped.

As for the pr job, it should be Captain's without a doubt. You have to have that kind of attitude to be successful at that position. Look at Desean Jackson, polar opposites from AE.

People still think its crazy to put him under center for specific plays, but he should... There's a reason he only worked out with the qb's at the combine, when every scout and expert told him not to. He needs at least a few reps back there, so maybe during the season they can be confident with Moore and Clausen, then AE as 3rd qb.

It's preseason, and thus it doesn't matter. I really, really doubt Fox lets Armanti return in the regular season if he doesn't get this corrected. Remember Goodson? He muffed one or two and didn't see the field the rest of the season.

I don't see why so many are angry toward Armanti. The man didn't ask the front office to give up a pick to take him and then convert him to a returner and receiver. He's going to take some time to develop. I personally don't think he needs to return at all this year -- it's possible we could work him in as a receiver every now and then. But that's exactly what I expected when we drafted him.

Right. Some Huddlers are living in a dream world. When I first heard that they were going to try and convert Armanti Edwards to a punt returner, I was like "Well...OK...???" I really didn't think that it was a good idea, but perhaps they knew something that I didn't. Being a return man is a different animal. I don't think that it is something that can be taught. Either you have it, or you don't. In my opinion it is something that comes naturally. Good receivers don't always make good return men (Smitty has obviously spoiled some of you).

On the flipside, an athlete with good hands can be taught to be a receiver because that is mostly a matter of learning routes, getting in good position, and separating from your defender, etc. Being that Edwards is a natural QB (being on the other side of the pass), this should facilitate his conversion to a WR, because he probably already thinks like a QB , if you get what I'm saying.

And, of course, if he thinks like a QB, and is a great athlete as many have purported him to be (so much so that it was his ticket to the NFL), then it would be quite logical for him to run the wildcat formation and/or run a few gadget plays as a WR (similar to the way the Steelers used Randle El a few years ago).

Exploiting Edwards' athleticism as a slot receiver---possibly more depending upon his natrual receiving ability---and using him in the wildcat makes sense,

but it's going to take a little time to iron the kinks out, so give the kid a break.

If the coaches and Armanti can get themselves on this page, and stop trying to force the man to be a returner, then his upside and value would probably become more balanced, and in turn become more palatable to all you whiners that just need to get over the fact that we gave up such a high pick for him.

BTW, all of you whiners need to get over the OC spending what appears to be a little high on Edwards at the moment because overall it looks like we have gotten more than our moneys worth from other picks like Hardy and E. Moore, Fiammetta, our TEs, and so much of our young talent.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
