The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys have received "some inquiries" about the availability of Sam Hurd.

Beat writer Todd Archer cautions that "nothing is imminent," but Hurd is undoubtedly available. The question is whether another team is willing to pay Hurd's hefty $1.76 million salary by trading for him. Most likely, teams will wait to see if Hurd is waived on Saturday before offering compensation.

If the Jaguars keep five receivers, as expected, Troy Williamson will have to beat out Tiquan Underwood for the final spot.

For the second straight year, Underwood starred in OTAs only to disappear once the hitting started. Mike Sims-Walker, Mike Thomas, Kassim Osgood, and Jarett Dillard are considered locks. The winner of the No. 5 battle will be nothing more than an occasional deep threat.

Michael Clayton didn't play a single snap in the Bucs' third preseason game Saturday night.

We'd say this was a clear sign that Clayton's Tampa tenure is over, but the St. Petersburg Times reveals some startling news. His $3 million salary is fully guaranteed. Bucs GM Mark Dominik should've been fired on the spot for giving Clayton this deal. There's no way he'd bring anything in a trade, and Clayton will be a game-day scratch if he stays on the roster.

There are some guys I wouldn't mind trading for...maybe a 4th or 5th round pick. A guy like Jordy Nelson, limas sweed, or even Mario manningham. These guys are third or fourth receivers on their respective teams but could push to start for us. I would love manningham...he would be ideal.

Just to be clear we are not going to trade for anyone. We are only looking to snag guys off of waivers.

Pat Yasinskas: You can bet that Marty Hurney and his staff will be watching to see what wide receivers get cut by other teams by Saturday afternoon’s deadline. Given the fact the Panthers don’t have a lot of depth at receiver, I think a move is entirely possible. Just to throw a couple of names out there from other NFC South teams that might be available -- Tampa Bay’s Michael Clayton and New Orleans’ Adrian Arrington. Yes, Clayton largely has been a bust in Tampa Bay, but he could fit better in Carolina’s system. He is a good run blocker and might be a scaled-down version of Muhsin Muhammad. Arrington’s a guy who’s been held back by injuries and a very deep receiving corps in New Orleans, but he’s got plenty of upside.

    • I'm not saying it shouldn't be a part of his game it should be present yes. But expecting 500/10 in the rushing category is not sustainable IMO. All it's going to take is a defender to be willing to sacrifice a penalty or a fine to send a message just as the Falcons did with Sam Darnold. And even as big and durable as Cam was defenses eventually started to try to send a message to him too. We have to be realistic about not putting our QB at unnecessary risk. Especially given the fact we aren't even willing to run a QB sneak with him. We've also invested a good bit in our backfield that's what they're there for. And furthermore ultimately whatever QB  tier Bryce Young ends up landing in over the course of his career it is going to be defined by what he does as a passer not his rushing ability. That's all I'm saying.
