Predicting the Inactives - Week Two

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Last week's list...

QB Tony Pike

RB Tyrell Sutton

WR Armanti Edwards

WR David Gettis

T Jeff Otah

DT Nick Hayden

DT Andre Neblett

LB Jordan Senn

This week's injury report...

QB Matt Moore, Limited Practice (Concussion)

RB Tyrell Sutton, Limited Practice (Shoulder)

WR Brandon LaFell, Limited Practice (Hamstring)

WR Charley Martin, Ruled Out (Hamstring)

T Jeff Otah, Ruled Out (Knee)

DT Louis Leonard, Ruled Out (Knee)

DE Tyler Brayton, Limited Practice (Ankle)

LB Jordan Senn, Limited Practice (Ankle)

CB Chris Gamble, Limited Practice (Ankle)

Putting those together, we can start off with the obvious choices...

QB Tony Pike

RB Tyrell Sutton

WR Charley Martin

T Jeff Otah

DT Louis Leonard

DT Andre Neblett

So that leaves two spots to fill, and the remaining choices aren't as easy.

Jordan Senn is still hurting, but with Charly Martin out the team is already down one special teams ace. The team could, of course, choose to be cautious with Senn for one more week. If they don't, then you have to deactivate someone in his place.

My guess? Senn sits one more week. If not, deactivate Eric Norwood.

And now for the real intrigue. What to do at receiver.

Charly Martin being out means either Armanti Edwards or David Gettis should see their first game action. If it's just between those two, then I'll put my bet on Edwards. But naturally, the team could decide that Edwards isn't far enough along in his transition to risk sending him into live fire. if so, then we see Gettis.

Ah, but hang on. There is a scenario where both Edwards and Gettis could be taking the field.

Suppose week one starter Brandon LaFell 's hamstring is too bad to go, or at least bad enough that the team decides to be cautious with him, or just feels like shaking things up a bit and seeing what a different mix might accomplish, or...well, you get it. Bottom line: It's possible.

In my estimation though, not probable. Until we hear different, I think LaFell starts again, Edwards plays, and Gettis sits.

Place your bets.

im cringing at the thought of nick hayden getting serious time at DT. hes basically a 3rd safety.

I didn't really cover it as an option because I don't see it happening, but the team could activate Andre Neblett instead of Nick Hayden.

I'd be surprised, but then I've been surprised before.

Isnt there special consideration for the 3rd QB. Like he is "inactive", but he is the emergency 3rd QB incase the first two get hurt?

If thats the case, then he would fill that slot.

none that I am aware of. Isn't Jason Baker our emergency QB?

There is He can dress and be part of the team. Once he enters the game the other 2 Qbs cant come back in. The active roster goes to 46 with the 3rd QB as emergency.

Yes, but that means that if Pike is activated, another must sit out the rest of the game. Moore taking a hit, but feeling better by halftime and able to go again could come back in if Pike is activated.

Personally, I'm going the suckers bet and saying Neblett and Gettis are our actives. Sit AE for more time, until he's 110% ready, and I just don't believe he is yet. After reading the rave reviews from coaches and whatnot, Neblett over Hayden isn't that far of a stretch imo. So, my inactives are AE and Hayden.

As long as the QB depth chart remains as it is, Pike will be the inactive. But as mentioned, the third QB is only "sort of" inactive. He'll dress for the game, but if he comes in neither of the first two can return.

(I think they renamed this "The Spurrier Rule" a few years back)

If Neblett gets activated over Hayden, expect a fair amount of discussion (i.e. why'd we keep him then)

Receiver is definitely where the big questions are this week.
