Jimmy's favorite target

Maybe I am the only one who noticed it, but it seems like Clausen loves him some Gettis. Went to him a few times. Maybe it's because being rookies, they spent a good deal of time together, but that's a good thing. Confidence for both of them in each other. Obviously, Clausen is comfortable with a veteran like Smitty, but Gettis and Goodson seem to be Clausen's favorite choice.

If he is the starter (like most of us are calling for) next week, look for Gettis to get some more balls thrown his way. Anybody else notice this or am I reading too deeply into 4-5 passes?

My thought process goes like this. Clausen is a rookie adjusting to the speed of the NFL. He has to learn what he has around him and has to learn who can do what. Moore trusts Smith because he's thrown at him since he got here. He trusts Rosario and even Jarrett cause he knows what they are capable of. He may not like what he sees in the rookie WRs, or maybe he just hasn't made the conscious effort to learn his new weapons (if you can call them that at this point).

Clausen on the other hand came in with Gettis, Lafell, Edwards, etc. He knows what these guys like. He works with them at practice a hell of a lot more than Moore (who probably just sees Smith, Jarrett, and maybe a couple plays with Gettis and Lafell). So, with Clausen having that comfort and that confidence in these new receivers, and these receivers KNOWING when the ball is coming at them and how hard it will be, they can stand a better chance at catching it (its a well documented fact that Smitty will catch anything ANY QB throws at him).

If Clausen and Gettis do indeed have that chemistry and trust, I'd look for that to be similar to the comfort Peyton Manning has with Reggie Wayne. That Tom Brady has with Randy Moss. Granted, those are top tier receivers. But at one point, they were just rookies as well. Gettis could evolve simply because of the QB throwing at him is my point.

we have to have a WR stick eventually, it took the Saints forever to find one for them and it finally happened in 2 years ago with the 7th round pick marques colston.

I hope to GOD this isn't our approach.. luck? lol

when you draft HORRENDOUSLY in one position, you look to FA to help out.. Smitty will need to be a #2 WR here soon.. We can't use just a "solid" WR.. we need to find a #1 to replace Smitty.. and then he'll be our #2..

and it needs to happen before he retires.. preferably 4-5 years before he retires.. that's what successful teams do..

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
