Fox: Too Early to Name QB for Next Week

I am really concerned with our coaching staff and how they will impact Clausen..

you have to find a way to build his confidence and build some momentum.. let the kid sling the ball down around and spread the receivers out to open the field...

use this season to give him real experience and not just starts.. only way to learn is to f**k up... what are we worried about? losing? lol

So throwing the ball more than running it is the best way to go? You also open him up to take big hits. How does that help?

We need to run the ball primarily and take a few unexpected shots. Play calling wasn't the problem....execution was.

yes you are. At least other Jimmy Clausen fans are willing to start noticing reality. You still seem very comfortable in the "i see nothing wrong with Jimmy and this team still has a chance to win the Superbowl this year" camp....soon to be by yourself.

No. You're need to be "right" is overwhelming the human nature of needing "truth". Jimmy played TERRIBLE in the 1st half. 2nd half was a completely different matter. I didn't see too much to make me say "man...where is moore?" He's a rookie and made rookie mistakes (as expected). Moore has some experience, and still plays like a rookie. I'll take a guy getting his first start fumbling a snap in the rain and throwing 1 stupid pass for a pick over a guy who has started 2 games this year and made several stupid throws and putting a few balls on the ground.

If we all need to get off Jimmy's jock, then you need to quit hugging Moore's balls.

you do more than run it 3 times and punt... or run it 2 times and throw on 3rd and 8.. certainly you can agree with that...

you get the kid in rhythm by making smart play selections.. oh, and how did that screen look? ;)

I think Jimmy should start next week, but not because he played any better than Moore. He certainly didn't look "good". But we've got to realize that he's going to make these mistakes and ride out the season with him.

Don't know if I would want to ride out the season with Clausen at this point. I think he needs more time to show what he can do. On the other hand Moore is a rookie in terms of game experience and could just as much be the future as Clausen is.

At this point we have to see if Clausen is better than Moore or whether Moore's struggles were because of a poor supporting cast as well. Truth is if Clausen struggles again next week, a case could be made for playing Moore again. Or at least giving him a chance again.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
