Gotta Give Godfrey some love here (stats included)

I just think, if you are gonna be a safety in the nfl. . you gotta be ICE cold consistent deep. I remember Minter being that way. He wasnt the best athlete on the field, but he rarely gave up big plays and made a decent share of his own. That's what I'd like Godfrey and Martin to be.

If safeties dont play consistent then big gains get eaten up. Ohm NOM NOM, right down the field. Factor in that our D-line isnt measuring up yet (they gotta finish plays) and now OC's are looking at that like the Panthers made some sort of mistake.

Godfrey is very very inconsistent and has been since he was drafted, but clearly has some talent.

He's a very frustrating player.

he is somewhat i agree but he has also played what three positions in three years take that into account when you judge him. This year another new position and he is already starting to excell in game three its a argument to me because no one adjust that fast when the coaches become more consistent with what they want from him then he can follow suit you feel me

he played FS all of 2008 and all of 2009. He couldn't handle the coverage assignments. Now he is playing SS, when asked to handle coverage assignments he still shows the same flaws (see week 1).

One game against a horrific Palmer isn't a sign he is starting to excell. It is his standard decent game where he captilizes on mistakes he occasionally mixes in.

He played really well yesterday, although it's mainly because he was asked to do all the things he does well.

He is really good at coming down quickly in run support (can over pursue and caught out for cut backs) and is very good at closing in on check downs.

He has shown time and again his deep coverage is his Achilles heel and the good teams have exploited him on more than one occasion.

So yes he did play well and we should not write him off, however the first game especially was just the polar opposite of what he produced yesterday.

Godfrey and Beason were the best players on defense yesterday. Anyone who denies that Godfrey has talent and is improving is insane. I'm very excited about seeing him progress into a hell of a safety in the next couple seasons.

define improving?

history shows that is just Godfrey being Godfrey.

    • …is Brycen Tremayne with 108 yards. Not sure what that tells us but I imagine it’s some sort of gumbo consisting of the following: - Bryce can’t push the ball downfield  - contrary to what many were saying this offseason, the wr still needs a lot of work.  - we need Coker back badly.  - Brycen is pretty good! Congrats to that young man! Curious to hear other’s read on it. Was a pretty surprised to see he had more yards than anyone other than Tet and thought that was symptomatic of our issues on offense.
    • I don’t think many fans would have guessed the Chiefs and Ravens would be where they are right now. Same goes for some surprise packages like the Colts, I’m not sure many would have put money on them being top of their division after five weeks. It’ll be interesting to see if this continues!   Not necessarily. The Chargers have lost both starting OL and their 1st and 2nd choice RBs. They fell apart against Washington. The Broncos have just beat the Eagles, so they’d be my favourite in that division, but they are still only one win ahead of the Chiefs. All the Chiefs need is a couple of results to go their way and they’ll be right in the fight for the AFC East. I think that division is going to be very close and probably not a 12 or 13 win division like predicted. Unless of course the Broncos kick on.
