Why I love Fox and don't understand the hate~

Been absent from these boards last few days. I can only bear so much..when I saw a post of 'trade Smith' I just couldn't look at anymore posts from the Huddle.

NFL network had a small thing on Fox. Basically a "he's gone and doesn't care", but one thing they mentioned that got me thinking is that he is going to be in huge demand.

So...if he is going to be in huge demand one has to ask why? If our fanbase wants him gone so much than why would any other team want him?

The reason is because he's awesome and easily in the top ten coaches in the NFL. I believe Richardson has let him be a lame duck this season for TWO reasons.

1. The Fat Cat is 'leading the way' in preparing for a lock out.

2. He has targeted another coach whom he thinks is better. Possibly the CHIN.

Here is why I love Fox:

1. No drama. You dont see him making stupid statements after each game. That you can see his disdain for the press is awesome to me. That 'fans' would want to see emotion from him will continue to boggle me. The guy on the radio that said "I want to see him crying because we suck" is JUST the kind of guy I dont understand.

2. Adjustments. Fox has continued to adjust game planning EACH game as dictated by what the other team is doing. Maybe other fans dont see it but I have. Run killing us? Next half we stop that cold. Cant get Smith open? Adjusted. I see it all the time. Perhaps fans want 'more', but Fox does a great job.

3. Knows how to win. When we don't have injuries we are a force. 12-4 couple years ago right? I mean Fox KNOWS what it takes to win. Oline, Dline, ground and pound.

What I see is people blaming Fox for things that are not his fault.

Is it his fault our Oline is banged up?

Moore played so horrible - I mean who expected that? Give him credit for yanking him.

Is it his fault Check Down Clausen is a rookie?

Is he at fault for some of the questionable play calling? We don't KNOW what/if he has talked to Davidson. Davidson's play calling game #2 was fine.

I would only criticize Fox for two things.

- He held on to Jake too long last year (and even I give him a PASS because for all the things Jake did for us.

- Because he has been with the team for so long it's possible he has gotten 'too safe'..whether its too conservative with game planning, or even talking to the players. This is the only reason I could possibly see us letting Fox go, that it is time for 'something new'...not because Fox sucks.

When this season ends, if the Fat Cat asks Fox to stay it might be Fox saying "no thanks" and I do believe it will be our loss.

I think Fox should have left last year.

He will go to a crappy team for 3 years and get his paycheck. he will improve that team but not make the playoffs. Then you will never see him again or might see him in the booth for the LA expansion team.

He is well respected and professional and I respect that. It is time to move on

Run Run Pass is a brilliant move and is custom called for each team we play.

I used to praise Fox for his adjustments after halftime. Lately, I don't see it.

Actually, it's not a lack of drama... I'd characterize Fox's demeanor as having no passion.

This kind of laid back business attitude will only get you so far in the NFL.

Right now, its gotten him 68-52-0 (overall), with 3 post season appearances in 9 years, and no Lombardi.

Here's a dude who has passion and can run the business side too:

lolwut? Are you watching the same John Fox I am? I mean, I can't even really comment on this other than to laugh and think your kidding around.

You want to see half-time adjustments? Go watch how the Giants adjusted to us on Week 1 and turned the 2nd half into a debacle for the Panthers.

3. Knows how to win. When we don't have injuries we are a force. 12-4 couple years ago right? I mean Fox KNOWS what it takes to win. Oline, Dline, ground and pound.

68-52-0 (overall)

That's a mediocre record. We're sick of mediocre. We had that under Capers, and now we have it under Fox. As a fan base, we've come within a few minutes of hosting a Lombardi in this town.... and after being so close, we don't want anything less.

What I see is people blaming Fox for things that are not his fault.

Uh hi. Head Coaches run the team's on-field performance.

Is it his fault our Oline is banged up?

It Fox's fault for not starting someone who is a worthy backup for Otah. And Otah is not the anchor for the line either. Gross has been owned out there, as have the other starters. What's their excuse... hang-nail?

Moore played so horrible - I mean who expected that? Give him credit for yanking him.

So far, starting Clausen only proves that Fox doesn't know what's wrong with this team, or doesn't know how to fix it.

Is it his fault Check Down Clausen is a rookie?

It's his fault for thinking a rookie would play better than a guy who won 4 out of 5 games for you last year, when we have some serious O-line issues he's yet to address.

By the way, DWill's numbers are way down too in case you hadn't noticed. Foxy obviously wasn't seeing that when he pulled the #2 trigger.

Is he at fault for some of the questionable play calling? We don't KNOW what/if he has talked to Davidson. Davidson's play calling game #2 was fine.

Our play calling sucked with Dan Henning doing it. He went on to Miami and continues to wow people. And our play calling still continued to suck when Davidson arrived... the common factor... it's John Fox's playbook.

I would only criticize Fox for two things.

Well, I agree with this much.

When this season ends, if the Fat Cat asks Fox to stay it might be Fox saying "no thanks" and I do believe it will be our loss.

If we go 4-12 or worse, I won't.

That's when I realized he was joking.

I am not sure of the love affair the media has with him, but whatever. I guess they see something we haven't. Yeah, he gets his teams to fight back, but after it's too late.

Fox will be great for 2-3 years at his new team, then it will become the same as it did here. If he could change he would have.

I'd rather have a Coach that adapts to the NFL or changes the NFL. Fox will never be that coach. So let him get torn up in NY or disappear in Cleveland. Just go...

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
