I just don't see any sort of deal like this making sense.

How is a 2nd and 4th round rookie ever going to replace Smith? The chances are just far to slim. Let Smith play out his contract and see what happens from there is the only situation that works for the Panthers as we'll never get a trade that will give us something equivalent.
