What we're seeing right now...

thats part of the reason i haven't been too awfully upset about what is happening this year. the changes that have been happening and are about to happen are things that i have been wanting for a pretty good while. i didn't expect it to happen so quickly but i don't mind that it did. kind of like ripping the bandage off quickly.

still, it's going to take a couple years before this team reaches it's potential. much of this would have happened when we got a new regime come in anyways so i think we just got a head start on it.

everything about this team so far makes it pretty ideal for a new coach to come in who is interested in building a young team to take into the future.

Are there still issues? Yes.

Could he regress a few times? Absolutely; maybe even this weekend.

I'd like to have been wrong about that one :(

Still, given the overall situation, an awful game shouldn't come as too big a surprise.

I'm not in favor of benching him at this point, but I do allow for the possibility that Fox might do it.

It should be mentioned that everyone has been asking for this in some fashion for awhile.

Wanting players cut and coaches fired.

Well it has all come true, and we are reseting the squad.

Be careful what you wish for! :)

This is what puzzles me about the fanbase. Everyone has been calling for this for several years now and when they get it...they freak the hell out! What did they think was going to happen with a purge? Super Bowl Champs that very season? Get real!

I don't understand the histeria about what JR is doing. Even he now sees what we all saw several years ago and is doing something about it. It doesn't matter if there is a coaching change now...no coach can fix this season and JR knows it, you and I know it.

I truly believe that JR had planned this for sometime now and being involved so heavily with the CBA talks saw an opportunity to make things right for the franchise in the long haul and he took it.

Sorry, I kind of got off track there but you know what I mean:D

Fox doesnt know how to develop a QB.

Jimmy is all on his own here.

That is the frustrating part of rolling Claussen out there...the thought that Fox and friends is just providing lame duck advice...and direction.

I will have a 2 yer window of patience with Claussen...but you will have to see an occasional flash mixed in there. Manning's year was full of ints...at least Matt Ryan had Roddy white and a power running game to offset his inexperience....

The offensive line and defensive talent is very comparable to Ryan's rookie year in Atlanta. I think our defense is better, O-line needs to get healthier and if there is ten in the box...call an audible to pass!

Also, if a new coach comes in..they usually do not keep the leftover QBs....QUINN, CUTLER, D Anderson, Thighpen, Leinert...lets hope Claussen is not part of this head shaking list.

It'd be pointless to bench him UNLESS they can tell that he is rattled (same with LaFell), or his toe is keeping him from throwing it deep.

Moore's contract is up at the end of the year. The only way we ask him to sign again, or he agrees to do so, is if he takes us to 11-5 (0% chance), 10-6 (0% chance), 9-7 (0% chance), or 8-8 (5% chance). If he can do that, we may change our tune here. But this O-Line, these rookie WRs, and the playcalling will prevent him from doing that...not to mention he's not that good to begin with.

Mike Minter said yesterday that we have to give these rookies time. We're so spoiled here in Carolina, we expect a winning season every year. We think if we tweak one thing, this season will turn around. It won't. Nothing can save this season. But what we can do is find out if Clausen is the answer. We're in a very odd situation right now. Most times, you have a vet that can tutor the rookie, or play if the rookie is overwhelmed, and you can safely evaluate the rookie throughout the season. We do not have that. That means that we have to find out this season if Clausen has got it, or is pure crap. The only way you find that out, assuming he isn't rattled or hurt, is to play him every week. It'll be ugly, we'll be laughed at, but if he is for real, he'll make it through this hell and we'll have a QB in the future. If he's crap, we'll take another route. But switching to Moore will do nothing more than getting us 4-6 wins this season at best, and honestly there really is no point in making that more important than seeing if Clausen is the real deal or not.

Tim Ryan one of the announcers who see different teams every week and has experience watching quarterbacks said it best, right now Clausen doesn't have a clue. He is lost out there. he doesn't know what he is seeing, is making no adjustments, and isn't going through any progressions. If you watched the game it was clear that receivers were open at times but Clausen was so focused on the checkdowns, he wasn't even looking down the field. Playing him more without helping him figure out what he is doing wrong won't help him at all and will actually hurt him. And that takes time and watching guys do it right. As other have said, do you think Testaverde wants a job as a coach??

This is my thinking and I'm just hoping that we aren't going to create another David Carr situation. This time starting here instead of in Houston.

    • Just because all draft picks are a gamble doesn't mean you don't have a better chance at hitting on a better player the higher you're drafting. It would literally be like someone saying, I'll give you 1 or 2 free spins on a slot machine, and you say you'll take the 1 because you're not likely to win anything anyways with 1 or 2, so why bother? The Cowboys desperately wanted T-Mac, but because they were 4 picks behind us, they weren't able to get him.  If you told Cowboys fans that had they lost 2 more games last year in a lost season, that it would get them the player they wanted so badly, would they in retrospect go back and lose those games to get their guy? 95% of them would take that trade off in a heartbeat, and the others who wouldn't are the fans who would rather enjoy an extra win or two in a poo season to then set themselves up to be better for the next decade. I also think the fans who argue against this thinking, get too caught up in the "well that means you're going to be rooting against us late in the season even if we still have a shot at the playoffs." Which isn't true, it's saying if you're telling me right now we'd make the playoffs but lose in the first round, that I'd rather end up 8-9 or 9-8 and just miss the playoffs because in our opinion, the benefits that come along with that outweigh the benefit of the players getting 1 game of playoff experience.
    • In relation to tanking. I think you can count on one hand the number of people here who actually want us to lose football games. When accounting for it across the fanbase it amounts to maybe 2% of the entire Panthers fanbase. But you engage with some internet trolls and think haters are coming out of the woodwork and hey look at that it's all a conspiracy that leads to Bryce Young haters. Do you hear yourself sir? If it sounds ridiculous that's because it is. I mean at this point do you see Bryce haters in your dreams? As far as the culture of this franchise goes we seem to be doing better in that department via what we are building right now and with the people we have in place. But we also shouldn't just make assumptions just yet either. The rubber still needs to meet the road. And going back to previous seasons I think we can acknowledge although tanking obviously isn't a thing there were some times where we thought our culture was improving but really it wasn't. Yes I'm looking directly at some of those wins under Wilks. If the culture had truly changed we would not have lost to the Steelers who have been mediocre for years at home the way we did and they were starting Mitch Trubisky ffs. We did not change our culture for the better and we won games that ultimately meant nothing. It was just a brief mirage. We've done this for years now. The harsh truth of the matter is the Panthers have not had a winning season or been to the playoffs in going on 8 years but in those years they've been trying to convince themselves they aren't poo but in the process all they've done throughout most of that time period is squander better draft position and we were still the worst team in the league for our troubles. At the end of the day we should be able to just be adults and reconcile with that. And no that isn't being "pro tank" or any other boogeyman term it's simply recognizing reality.
    • He's an asset in a game manager role. But as soon as you have to ask him to go out there and try to make plays and not just take what the defense is giving him... well, Darnolding happens.
