Just some insight to the future...

Yeah, we've gotten owned the past four weeks, and I don't expect that to change this week. In fact, I'm hoping it doesn't change this week. In all honesty, I hope it doesn't change for the rest of the season... why? Might you ask? All the negativity just blurting out here... hmm...

If we finish in the bottom 5 teams, we'll have a really high first round draft pick. With us going into the draft without a 2nd rounder, I'm thinking we trade our first rounder for a late 1st, and another 3rd... while packaging our two 3rd's for a 2nd rounder... giving us two decent draft picks in the first 2 rounds. You guys can ponder over what we'll take with those picks, but that's just an idea of what could happen should the season completely buckle and fall apart.

I'm sure I'll get torn apart for this post, but I've already come to terms with what will soon be reality.

I agree.

I wouldn't mind moving some names later in the season for high picks if possble.

PROBLEM IS!!!

With the lockout looming, many juniors might stay in college instead of coming out. Which will lead to a weaker class.

I think you will see the panthers going reverse psychology on themselves and trade their own picks away for higher future picks. At least I can hope they do if the lockout happens.

They should keep their high round picks and pick up any decent talent in a shallow draft pool then trade away some lower round picks for higher future picks in a deeper draft.

I doubt that'll be the case. I don't pay much attention to the CBA because it's all a bunch of crock. Most people don't realize how much money the players and the owners will lose out on if the CBA doesn't get done. Even though they may make millions now... they'll be hurting just like we were during the recession. They NEED to make money, so it'll be done before the season ends. I'm thinking the beginning of December to mid December.

I agree about moving some people for picks.

I doubt the smart Jrs will stay in school for this draft though. One thing that is almost sure to take place with the next collective bargaining agreement is some type of rookie wage scale. Its one of the few things the players union and owners agree on. Its insane what unproven rookie players get paid before they even play a down in the NFL.

Not sure why you thought you would get torn apart, on par with what I'm thinking about the season and the draft.

Don't be too sure of that. All players have been pre warned by the union to make their money from this season last 2 years. Also remember the minimum salary is around 350k so even Captain Munnerlyn isn't going to be hurting tooo bad. Yes, the players and owners don't want to lose money, but the owners are going to lock the players out without a reduced CBA. The players will lose a year of salary for sure but it isn't like they couldn't make money outside football: UFL, advertising, promotions, investment managers, etc...

The CBA will come down to which side blinks first and it will not be the owners. Every indication leans towards the players holding strong as well. The main reason for both not giving in: Greed.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
