Jimmy Clausen is a Coward

Armanti might be an every snap NFL QB, and man, I would love it if he turned out to be so. But it's not time to put him except for five or six snaps of the Mountaineer.

Right now, we need to work Claussen as much as we can. The Kid's got troubles and some areas he desperately needs to improve, but he won't do that if he gets yanked now. Pull him out of the starting line up and you'll ruin him at this point. He's worked his whole life to get here and he deserves a better chance than he's been given. And believe me, that's hard for me to say considering I think we've got a better QB playing WR now.

But loyalties be darned, the Kid needs a chance to get a handle on the NFL game. I want to see Armanti get a chance, but not at the cost of another player's promising career.

Look, it has to be better playing AE than what we have seen so far.

Just because JC played for ND doesn't make him the real JC.

He could not even throw the ball to the end zone.

Most of the passes he made were to the side line that were not hard passes.

He is throwing the ball away way too much. He is not establishing any passing lanes to use. This is the NFL, you cannot expect to complete a pass just over the helmet of a defensive lineman coming after you that many times.

Start Armanti, sit Armanti or trade Armanti.....I don't care, but do something productive with the QB situation. I believe he could really help us, but that is just my opinion. As we know, we all have them.

Coward? K. Collins was a coward. Hit him several times and he'd throw the ball to his mama and not care if she gets clobbered. Use him as a starting point.

Several things bug me about Clausen that aren't the O-lines fault (they DO suck BTW). Problems NOT brought on by poor coaching and OC's (They DO suck too by the way.)

At 6'2" he's not tall enough to see over his own linemen. I watched his down field vision obstructed by his own guard and tackle while trying to block. Clausen couldn't see over them! He curled into a fetal position and ate the ball. K. Collins would have closed his eyes and chunked it....Anywhere.

Dropped snaps and hand offs. Little "Whopper" hands? And related to this; Slow delivery down field, no attempt to hide the ball when handing off, no attempt to fake pump a pass. Granted he doesn't have much time to throw much less fake. He looks the reciever down. Everyone knows where the ball is going. And after yesterday I'm not sure if any of them know the play book. No wonder the plays are lack luster if they can't decern one from the other.

Put Moore back in? How'd that work yesterday? Put Edwards in? Other than Edwards, what would it hurt?

If we're going to play like a sand lot team I'd at least like to see 'em have some fun. Review some of Tarkenton and the Viking's early footage. They didn't win much but they were fun to watch.

Why would it have to be better playing AE? I'm not saying it couldn't be, but what has AE done to prove he can play QB in the NFL?

Clausen has at least spent a couple years at the helm of a pro-style D1 offense under a microscope at ND and had reasonable success.

Armanti can throw the ball with good velocity and decent accuracy, but that doesn't necessarily make him a good NFL QB.

How much worse could Armanti be than Clausen? ALLOT WORSE.

You just aren't high enough to be on their level.

I live in Boone and all anyone talks about is Armanti f**king Edwards all day long. I'm the only Panthers fan in the office (Skins, Cowboys, Titans, and Packers are all well-represented though :)) and it's been non-stop "START ARMANNNTTIIIIIII" since the draft.

I mean I went to ASU and the Mountaineers are the only college team I remotely care about, but it's getting ridiculous.

jimmy is a rookie and i think he is doing a fine job. he might not fire up the offense as much, but we are in a "rebuilding" mode so he is working with what he gots. "it is what it is"

Colt McCoy could going into Pitt this weekend and I think it would be tough for him to look worse than Clausen has overall this year.

it is what it is.

Based on my time up there I think you may have a point LOL.

You know I wonder sometimes if some of you guys (not directed at you Kral) haven't forgotten what it's like to be excited about football. Yea the App fans are excited to see their boy get a shot at the big time. They believe in him based on watching him do magic for the last 4 years.

They are used to watching a wide open fast paced offense and they are used to winning, a lot of winning. I have to tell you that logging on to this board for the first time was a real shock. I've never seen anything like it.

ASU is a very, very easy team to be a fan of. They're in the title chase every year, it's an anomaly if they aren't number one in the nation, and they've been at this level for so long that a lot of their college age fans either didn't care about them or just don't remember when they sucked, which was as recent as 2004. A 2010 ASU freshman was 12 then, for chrissakes. Having never experienced being a fan of a team that just sucks ass and is consistently disappointing results in some of the stuff you see out of App fans.

Pre-Armanti, a lot of fans couldn't give two shits about the Panthers because they had their Apps on Saturday. With Edwards in the picture, they now all of a sudden care and are shitting a brick if he's not in on 20 snaps/game minimum because gosh darnit he's just so talented and they know he's going to be a great NFL player-circumstances, learning curve, and anyone else on the roster be damned.

    • interesting podcast. Did my best to summarize  1  none understand why rico isnt getting 100% of snaps 2  dalton  is seasoned veteran  and for this game, could he more of a challenge for bills than young   Better arm and   Familiar with  mcdermott defense.  Has seen everything    Impressed with Tet  and Panthers do not have bad receivers and impressed by size  3  not impressed with bills passed game and Allen is being held back because of it. bills do not seem to have a consistent vertical  passing game  as in past.   No intermediate More Short passes for YAC and that hurts Allen    Could be to control pace and tempo of the game given the bills defensive weaknesses    Need intermediate to stretch zone defenses  4 bills have several returning from DL from suspension this game on defense that could help  5  atlanta beat bills offense by  blitzing  and played ton of man coverage.   No structured intermediate passing game for bills   Bills had no answer for atlanta defense either blitzes and man to man coverage    Rushed 5 or more on over 30% if Allen’s drop backs  6  compliments the panthers defense   Up and coming but has issues. Last in pressure on qb   Last in DVOA and coverage of TEs
    • jesus christ, what weird subforum did I stumble upon where people are talking like Dalton is this incredible back up that is going to throw for 400 yards and 4 TD's like we haven't seen him in this role before, and that there is this master plan to fake Bryce's high ankle sprain in order to bench him during a winning season with favorable stats?
    • It is strange, but no less surreal than him being the 1.1 in the NFL draft.  If I were in the situation the team is in, I would be Not want to aggravate that injury and would be overly cautious. He needs to be fully healthy so he can properly evaluated in these games that are coming up.  They see Dalton in practice, they saw the film from Sunday. Maybe he has looked good enough that they think a side benefit to the caution is getting to look at the offense with a different guy running it.    The worst thing that could come out of it is Bryce is hampered the rest of the season
