Why not Armanti Edwards at QB?

Armanti is too short to be a classic pocket passer in the NFL. He's not the sort who can drop back, step up into the pocket, scan the field, and make the throw. He tries that, he gets way too many passes batted down and tipped.

Now, if you run something where he rolls out, then he's gold. Make him mobile and put him in a WCO style attack and he can be deadly. In fact, I think he's about the same size as Jeff Garcia. So when the next coach arrives, maybe you have a shot at realizing your dream.

Good thing Clausen is so tall

It amuses me that after watching 5 games of fumbles, dropped passes, missed blocks, false starts, lack of receiver separation, blown routes, lucky tips, etc. etc. that some Carolina fans apparently conclude that our problems on offense are due to poor Quarterback play.

Sure, Clausen had a few bad snaps, one in the rain. Sure, Moore threw several picks when trying to force a pass play through a good defense backfield.

The running game has been spotty, and the play calling has been obvious. Our tight ends, which happen to be our most experienced/proven receivers, are totally underutilized. Our O-line is not getting it done.

Finally, if Armanti showed the right kind of promise in practice then Tony Pike wouldn't even be on the roster........but he is.

drew brees is 6'0 even

steve smith is 5' nothing

height is a factor, but anybody that writes some one off as a quarterback for being 5'11 is being unfair. jimmy clausen is like 6'3 and he can't throw it over lineman..

HEY HERE IS A LINK TO JOIN THE ARMANTI EDWARDS PETITION ON FACEOOK (it's blowing up the last couple days..

Since the comparison has already been made... Vick is only 6'0"... a guy I know who is an App State homer says that Armanti has long arms and has a high release point (I have no idea, does he?) Clausen is taller, but not that much more and has a more 3/4 release...

I say it's worth a shot with our crap O-line...

I've said this several times since sunday

AND

Moose said it on WFNZ yesterday afternoon

What do we really have to lose?

That really surprises me that Moose would say that. I'm not convinced he can play quarterback at the NFL level yet, but I'm willing to give him a shot. Put him in for a drive or two where he's not limited to just the Mountaineer (which will not be effective until Armanti shows he's a capable passer).

If he can't field a punt what makes you think that he can take an NFL snap without fumbling?

Well, there's the fact that he took snaps at quarterback in college but has very little experience as a return man. Talk about apples to oranges.

We need to do what the Jets and the Dolphins did (and still do) when bringing along young QBs, which is to use the wildcat often. I think Clausen will be a better QB if we take some of the heat off of him and let Armanti take some wildcat snaps. Its a way to let Clausen go out there and not have to make a decision on every single down. In a way it lets his mind rest for a few snaps and keeps the defense on its heels. I think its a good plan and its working out well for the Jets.
