More Important Deadline

After this week, the team will need to decide whether or not to activate Thomas Davis.

If they do, they'll get a roster exemption for a short time, but after that someone will have to be cut.

If they don't, he'll go on injured reserve.

I don't think there will be a lot of playing time for Davis. His best days were playing where Beason is now and I know he can't win that job. Connor is playing well at MLB so why bench him and move Beason over just to give another player a shot who is coming off two ACL tears in less than one year?

If he were under contract I would agree. The next couple of months could easily be the most important months in Davis' life(financially speaking), I'm sure he wants to be out on the field.

I'm not so sure he will be back. If he was close to being ready I think we would have heard of some developments.

No way we re-sign both, so it would be for a few games tops.

I am also dubious that Davis is significantly better than Connor, Dan has been playing lights out for us. However having Davis would improve our nickel defence etc

No reason to rush him back for this season. Heal up, and come back ready to go nuts next year.

Hell with the defense being on the field so much and the LBs racking up so many tackles we might as well just set up a LB rotation.

Yeah, he's not 100% and there is zero reason for him to come back other than to avoid rust.

As of today, Davis does not have a job next year. Under anything but the current state of the Panther franchise I'd say put him on IR and let him come back strong next year.

But there is no next year for Davis and maybe the entire league, so I think the team owes him the opportunity to either play himself into a new contract or sit down and hope the Panthers or someone else makes him an offer. I think it's his call.
