According to STATS LLC, during the Super Bowl era, 148 teams have started 1-5. Only one of those teams, the 1970s Cincinnati Bengals, made the playoffs. In fact, the Bengals started 1-6 before winning their final seven games to advance to the AFC postseason. Not surprisingly, Cincinnati was one and done in the playoffs, getting blanked 17-0 by the Baltimore Colts in the divisional round.

With only 14 games and 26 teams in the NFL at the time, and I think only 10 teams went to the playoffs. It was probably harder to do then...So there is still a little hope.

Honestly the only shot we have is if: We go on a miracle winning streak and our division rivals, all three of them go on a major losing streak or we sweep our division.

Calculate the odds on that one.

Wildcard you say? Unlikely. There are too many teams that are in a position to finish the season with a much better record than ours that may not win their divisions.

Yeah there's a chance. But those chances are usually referred to as a "chance in hell" or a "1 in a million". It would certainly make for a great heart-felt story, but hoping for stories likes that usually just get your heart broken.

But since I understand the need for meaning and purpose in order to keep interest in our team and this season just view it with the interest of simply remaining competitive, finishing somewhat respectfully, win some games while watching a good show(or circus) and hopefully find out who among our players are going to be here the following season as serious contenders.

And for the pride! Not for the pride of making the playoffs. But for the pride of us beating our opponents on Sunday, beginning with the RAMS. Let's just kick some ass this season on Sunday and let the cards fall where they may.

The next 4 or 5 games will tell the tale. We will know if we really are improving or if this was just a win at home against a west coast team at 1PM. We will also get to see where everyone else is at that point. If things hold true to form this year and other teams have 4 losses, then there is a chance. But if several teams break out and are sitting for example at 8-2 or 8-3 for example, then our chances go down significantly. After seeing us play the first 5 weeks, it is still hard for me to get too excited at this point. Lets see the offense put up 30 points this week and the defense shut down St Louis at their house.

    • Some people will shift the goal posts but he does still have to consistently help the team win, eventually. Not only help but be the reason. That's what franchise QB's do.
    • One of the Carolina Panthers' newest defenders thinks their pass rush can go from worst to first. ESPN's David Newton recently chatted with outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent earlier this offseason. Jones comes over from an awfully impressive Minnesota Vikings defense—one that ranked first in takeaways (33), fourth in sacks (49) and second in QB pressure rate (44.4 percent) this past season. And despite a historically-bad campaign by Carolina's defense in 2024, the 26-year-old seems to believe his new unit can be similar—or even better—than his last. "I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better," Jones said, via Newton. "I've seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/24/panthers-pat-jones-vikings-espn/83840667007/?taid=683219b347846900018fa10a&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter     It's the offseason.  Let hope spring eternal. (actually, I think we are much closer than this board thinks)
    • 5 total TDs against the Falcons was pretty good efficiency and he showed that ability to go off scripts and get 2 of those TDs rushing.  How many times did he deliver big time throws against pressure.  I agree we need to see this offense operate at high efficiency which starts with Bryce. When he does I hope the goals posts won’t shift to some other stat like QB sneaks lol
