A thread to discuss offseason possibilities...

I'll start with this one from KFFL.

Ravens | McAlister expected to be released

Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to release CB Chris McAlister this offseason. The Ravens would save $8 million if they released McAlister.

Chris McAlister was, at one point, a shutdown corner. He appears to have fallen off some though, and the Ravens may just let him go in a cap move.

If he's still fairly good, he'd make a nice replacement for the likely-to-depart Ken Lucas, but given the Panthers cap situation and the likelihood that he may want a decent sized contract, not sure how possible it could be. Possily not much, but likely cheaper - and more realistic - than any hope of getting Nnamdi Asomugha.

Another corner possibility is the Redskins Carlos Rogers. The Skins demoted Rogers in favor of newly acquired DeAngelo Hall, and it hasn't set well. he might be available via trade, though the Skins are expected to want a second round pick. Not reasonable for a team that already has no first round pick (any scenarios involving Rogers and Julius Peppers would not be logical without additional compensation from the Skins).

quick note about mcallister

he was put on IR with a phantom knee injury. he didn't buy in to Harbaugh's system (team player etc) and decided to show his discontent by faking a hurt knee. Harbaugh responded by just throwing him on IR and ending his season.

By position I like these guys.

QB- Kurt Warner no

QB- Matt Cassell no

RB- Brandon Jacobs- Giants no

RB- Derrick Ward- Giants no

RB- Darren Sproles- Chargers no

WR- T.J. Houshmandzadeh- Bengals maybe, but probably too expensive. I like the young potentiel on the team at WR. Sometimes you just need to be patient and let them develop.

WR- Bobby Engram- Seattle no

TE- Owen Daniel- Texans not really an upgrade IMO

TE- L.J. Smith- Eagles YES

OL- Stacey Andrews- Bengals no

OL- Matt Birk- Vikings no

OL- Jordan Gross- Panthers Of Course

OL- Mike Goff- Chargers no

OL- Jeff Saturday- Colts no

DL- Julius Peppers Hell no

DL- Albert Haynesworth Would like to say yes but I think it would be another Jenkins type of situation in the locker room.

DL- Bertrand Berry Yes, he could be a great addtion to the DE rotation but I doubt he would come here to be that.

LB- Ray Lewis- Ravens no

LB- Terrell Suggs- Ravens Yes

LB- Willie McGinest- Browns no

LB- James Farrior- Steelers 3-4 guy

LB- Channing Crowder- Dolphins no

LB- Michael Boley- Falcons no

LB- Jonathan Vilma- Saints no

LB- Bart Scott- Ravens no

LB- Eric Barton- Jets no

LB- Mike Peterson- Jaguars no

LB- Karlos Dansby- Cardinals I like him, he might be an upgrade over Diggs but I think I would rather have Diggs for the money.

DB- Nnamdi Asomugha- Raiders We can dream can't we!

DB- Mike Brown- Bears Injury prone

DB- Jermaine Phillips- Bucaneers Maybe, not very good agaisnt the run through.

DB- Dunta Robinson- Texans Yes

DB- Dawan Landry- Ravens no

DB- Brian Dawkins- Eagles Just based on his fire and passion yes but I don't see a need for a starting safety right now.

Keep in mind I like these guys but alot of them will get the tag put on them.

My responses are in red. Note that most of these guys are really talented I just don't see the need for most of them ie LB, Safety, OL.

For the most part I think the Panthers will be looking to add depth than starters this offseason in FA.

You're welcome. There is also another site I have used in the past. It not only gives this years FA but also FA in the future years. The only problem is with so much infomation sometimes it isn't up to date or accurate on all of the players. Here's the link.

    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
    • Moton is a class act.
    • Sure, that is possible. That’s what, an extra 55 yards a game on average and 7 more TDs? What if he’s just 15th?  I imagine they would extend him in that situation due to the belief that he’ll keep trending up. maybe a 3 year contract to prove he can be top 10? Sounds like a Tepper plan.
