Source: LB Williams headed to IR

The Panthers are going to make a roster move soon, as they're expected to place LB Jamar Williams on injured reserve, according to a source with knowledge of the decision.

Williams suffered a spinal concussion against Cincinnati in Week 3. He missed the next week's game at New Orleans, but practiced on Oct. 6. He was off the field the following day, saying multiple opinions on his condition caused the team to reconsider and be more cautious.

Williams said last week he felt fine and hoped to play soon, but apparently they're not going to wait for him. At the same time, he admitted his MRIs showed inflammation in his neck, which concerned the team.

"They saw a little mark, come to find out it was just inflammation, but that kind of threw smoke in the air," Williams said last week. "A couple doctors said it was fine, a couple were worried about it. That indecision between doctors led our staff to say 'Let's give him another week and see how it goes.' ...

"It's hard, but I'm really try to take slow. Any time you're dealing with a neck, it's such a fragile thing."

Williams was acquired by the Panthers in the trade that sent SS Chris Harris to Chicago.

There was no word from the team on a corresponding roster move Wednesday morning before practice.

Why hadn't we heard any of this before? I never recall hearing any direct quotes from Williams or the team on the injury since the week it happened.

Welp, that was short lived. To me, sounds like this may be a career thing or we just won't bring him back anyway b/c he's not very good.

Wonder who we're adding. Did we have to de-activate or move someone to bring someone up off the PUP?

that would be nice

Indeed. I never would've thought until this year that one OL would make such a difference.

I second.

We can only hope. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, but IIRC, I've only read that TD has been out at practice. I haven't heard anything about Otah.
