According to carolina growl trgovac says he's back

Recommended Posts

CHARLOTTE – Defensive coordinator Mike Trgovac said Tuesday he plans to re-sign with the Carolina Panthers for another season.

He's expected to do so within the next few days.

“I’m excited,” said Trgovac, during a short breaking from scouting at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Trgovac, along with a number of other coaches, was offered a one-year contract by the team and has told them he will return. Trgovac's name had been linked to an opening on the Jacksonville Jaguars staff as defensive coordinator.

“I’m eager to come back. Things didn’t go as well as we wanted late in the season, but we’ll get those fixed and we’ll go from there,” Trgovac said.

However, Trgovac will be working with two new assistant coaches.

Linebackers coach Ken Flajole has left to join the St. Louis Rams as their new defensive coordinator, while Sal Sunseri has joined the University of Alabama staff, reuniting with Nick Saban, whom he coached with in 2002.

The Panthers are already in the process of interviewing potential replacements to fill those roles.

“Anytime you lose two quality guys it’s always tough,” Trgovac said. “But we’re down here talking to people and we’ll move on.”

On offense, the Panthers lost quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy last week to the Denver Broncos, meaning three members of coach John Fox’s staff have left.

The Panthers have offered most of the rest of their assistant coaches one-year contracts to return and the vast majority are likely to sign, or have already signed to return, according to league sources.

Trgovac declined to talk about Julius Peppers’ announcement on Saturday that he doesn’t want to sign a long-term contract with the Panthers.

after the last 2 years he should be. there is no reason this fool should have a coaching job in peewee football. he also is eager to take money form the big cat while he continues to make faces expecting that to make the defense work.

That's it. I'm changing my avatar back to the Firefox symbol.

John Fox is an f'ing idiot. It's just like Bush after Katrina: We finish the last seven games ranked 31st in the league in scoring defense and get destroyed by Fitz in the playoffs and what's Fox's reaction? "Heckuva job Turdo!" and a contract extension.

Idiocy. How you people can defend these clowns is beyond me.

    • I suppose it depends on what you mean as 'elite'. I typically mean someone that can play with lower level pieces around them and still win. There are very few of those.
    • It would obviously be incredible if Brooks came back and just ran away with the job on his opportunities like Rico Dowdle did last year. But any Panthers fan that has been around the block knows better than to go ahead and make plans for that. Brooks has missed a ton of not just playing time but meaningful early career growth in a league that has increasingly devalued the position from an investment standpoint beyond one or two superstars. There's really not any comparison to look back on that lines up with the current iteration of the league at least not favorably. The key thing that this RB room has going for them is our investment in the OL. The highest paid OL in the league two years in a row paired with our staff should make it easier for just about any RB to get into open running lanes. But that is also anything but a given considering our OL was largely middle of the pack last year. In the end it might all be a moot point anyways if we again struggle to establish a viable passing attack.
    • I don't have him making the team and I think same goes for the staff, but they are hopeful for a PS spot.    I mean of course I'd like 3 all-world at RB and every spot, just doesn't work that why. Panthers normally carry 3. dan always talk up Etienne, even called him a future star.....I think Brooks will be fine as a 2 with health pls.....  Chubba can carry a seasons load as lead dawg.    Its fine, I mean backup OGs or CB is much higher on my worry scale(Id even put QB room as worse than RB room too...)
