The Fat Cat

I will say this in defense of the front office: given what we saw from our running backs, Matt Moore and our offensive line (even the backups) last year, did you really foresee that the offense would play so horribly this year?

Everyone thought the offense would be as good or even better than last year, and we thought it would be the defense that would struggle. It's unfortunate, but I do think the front office expected the passing game to greatly improve and be more similar to what you saw out of the 49ers game.

Saying you'll win a Superbowl is just rhetoric. No one actually believed that he said that as an absolute 100% certainty. That just doesn't make any sense. So, you can't really bang on him for that. He did a good job of getting us an NFC championship and looking like things were going in the right direction. However, the league figured out Fox and he never learned to change. So, we slowly started to deteriorate into the trainwreck we are now. Fox is a great DC, but a crappy HC, and JR doesn't have the stones, or maybe no longer the drive, to make any major moves on his own. He'd rather just sit and wait, hoping that everything will work itself out.

now i do agree that it was something that is just said to appease the fans, but my point is he still said it and instead of trying to reach that goal he threw away this season. we are not the patriots, the steelers, or the giants teams like that who are good year in and year out and have won super bowls. our owner should not be trying to send a message to the league and its players rather then trying to win a super bowl. i dont care if your not happy the players want more money, your a damn millionare, shut up and if your not happy sell the damn team. i am not a millionare but i spend thousands and thousands of dollars on the panthers each year not for Jerry Richardson just to sit on it.

i hate the yankees more then any franchise in sports, but there is no one i respect more then George Steinbrenner. He gave the middle finger to the league and the small market teams. good for him becauase all he cared about was winning championships and appeasing yankee nation. that is why he will always be considered the best owner ever in sports history.

Just become a Giants fan and be done with it dude. I have no idea why you're a Panthers fan, and that has nothing to do with the way you feel about Jerry Richardson. If you hate the Richardsons, your life is going to be nothing but pain from here on out, because once pops dies, the team is going to stay in the family. Do you just want to lord it over your Joisey pals when/if Carolina is a good team again? About how you stuck it out through the lean years? I seriously don't get it.

Also you have to have expected the yankee poo and constant piss shots about where you're from. Jesus you're from one of the most heavily stereotyped and mocked places in the country, second only to the south.

And I can't speak for everyone, but your broken record bullshit is getting tiresome. Everything you've discussed in this thread has been explored in detail everywhere else on this board, up to and including the "fat cat" moniker that you probably mistook for clever.

    • Um, no, just no. Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, Commanders are 8 teams that it's not even a debate, they aren't trading their QB for Purdy. Patriots, Broncos, Titans, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons are 7 more teams with QBs drafted in the last 2 years that also would rather stick with them than trade for Purdy as they all have more upside than he does. Lions, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs are 4 more that would likely keep their QB's as well, age aside for Goff, Dak, and Baker. Panthers and Colts are two teams in the same situation, QB's who have both struggled and shown flashes to where the teams probably stick with them because they drafted them, but in a re-draft of all QB's, they probably take Purdy over the guy they currently have. Jags, Cardinals, Dolphins, are 3 more with QB's who probably have a higher upside than Purdy but come with their own question marks, so debatable if they'd take Purdy over who they already have. That leaves Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Saints, Seahawks, and Rams. Rams would take him over Stafford for the future of course, but not for 2025, and I'd think the Seahawks would take him over Darnold, but honestly not sure if they would take him over Milroe at this moment as they really like his potential and have him for 4 years really cheap. That leaves 5 teams that I see who would absolutely take him over their current situation right now, and a handful of others who MIGHT take him over their current guy, a far cry from your 20.
    • Agreed. Also as soon as they received the top pick in the next draft it was over. Bears won that trade. Gave up a top overall pick got one the next year plus pick 9, a couple 2nds, and DJ Moore a proven young WR. Had their 2024 pick from us be in the late teens or later it would be more debatable IMO.
    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
