Interesting point of view from Sundays game

Going to do this a little different this week and go series by series and add my thoughts.

1st QTR-Rams

We hold them to 3 pays and out. Sweet.

1st QTR-Panthers

Matt!!!! OMG what are you doing? Don't you want to be a starter in this league? Yes! Then stop with the horrible decisions.

1st QTR-Rams

They miss a field goal. Nice. No points off of INT.

1st QTR-Panthers

2 yards on 2 run plays. Uh oh, still stacking the box.

3 and out punt.

1st QTR-Rams

7 play drive and a punt, extended on a defensive holding call on 3rd and 3. Bradford begins to get comfortable dinking and dunking his way down field.

1st QTR-Panthers

4 plays and a punt. This was the infamous reverse call that left us 3rd and 20.

1st QTR-Rams

Rams driving to end 1st QTR.

2nd QTR-Rams

Defensive line and backers doing a great job of stuffing run, but no pressure on Bradford allows him to dink and dunk his way to a 13 play 7 minute drive ending in a field goal. Rams up 3-0. Still in it.

2nd QTR-Panthers

First play, Matt drills one down the middle only to bounce off the face of Steve Smith about 25 yards downfield. Really Steve? Man, what could have been? That pass and catch would have had us around the 50 yard line and kicked off a scoring drive, maybe. Tried to run on 2nd and lose 2 yards. Leaves us with a 3rd and 12 where we complete a 4 yard pass and have to punt.

2nd QTR-Rams

A 39 yard Baker punt puts them at their own 45. Defense is still playing great against the run and we still dont put any pressure on Bradford. Assisted by a def offside that puts them from 3rd and 12 to 3rd and 7. What happens? 8 yard completion for a 1st down. They work their way down to the 2 yard line and line up for a play and I notice Amendola on the right slot on the 2 yard line with nobody within 6 yards of him. I yell to my TV for somebody to cover him and they dont. He takes 2 steps and turns around for a TD. Grrrrrrrr! I was angry.

Rams up 10-0. 11 plays over 6 minutes. There is still hope!

2nd QTR-Panthers

Moore and company look sharp in 2 minute offense ending in a field goal. Rams up 10-3 at half. On the board with a little momentum at half. We recieve to start 3rd QTR

3rd QTR-Panthers

Nice drive here. 10 plays over 5 minutes. Stewart rushes for 17 yards. Matt throws for 21 but an 8 yard loss on a sack puts us in 3rd and 20. Incomplete pass and a punt.

3rd QTR-Rams

D held up. 7 plays and a punt.

3rd QTR-Panthers

Another good drive....for a minute! Start at our own 7. Fight our way to the 31 when JStew loses 3 yards on first down and the next play....oh, the next play. Matt Moore throws a sweet a*s*s back shoulder fade to Steve Smith down the left side and he makes a great catch....what? He dropped that??!!! No way. He had it.....No....he didn't. What if...........

Matt gets sacked on 3rd and 13. Punt. But a nine play drive is still reason for optomism.

3rd QTR-Rams

3 and out. Nice job Defense. On a side note, they FINALLY put Munnerlyn back on punt return and what does he do? 31 yard return. They did hear me scream that one to my TV.

4th QTR-Panthers

Good field postion. 2 rushes for 5 yards. 3rd and 5 Steve Smith recieves a short pass, well short of first down, makes a couple of moves to fight for first down (which I loved) and fumbled. Turnover #2.

Which.......

4th QTR-Rams

leads to a TD. Rams up 17-3. Losing hope. Wondering how and why we continue to shoot ourselves in the foot. Still not out of it.....yet!

4th QTR-Panthers

Matts arm gets hit as he throws and gets picked off for turnover #3. Rams ball at the 28. I do love Matts downfield approach. He is very aggressive and is not afraid to make plays downfield. And has made some REALLY nice throws in the game to this point. It was obvious that he was going deep on that play. What if..........

4th QTR-Rams

Hold them to a field goal again. D looks pretty good today. Get this, 7 plays 0 yards. Rams 20-3.

4th QTR-Panthers

No huddle offense. Matt bounces back after fumbling on the second play. Drives the team 77 yards in 12 plays in only 2:58 ending in a TD pass to LaFell. The first of his career. New hope comes with it. Rams 20-10.

4th QTR-Rams 3:37 left

3 and out again. Nice. They must want us to pull this one out.

4th QTR-Panthers 2:28 left

The Nail in the Coffin. Matt, trying to make something happen, looks for Smith deep and gets picked for his 3rd on the day and the teams 4th.

It was exciting for a second there. I was holding out hope for a miracle, but I am an erternal optomist. I do wonder when and if we are going to be able to run the ball. We will be in every game every week because of a solid defense. So again, we will have to hold out hope that we will find some offense again. I'd love to pull out a few wins before the season is over. Matt Moore clearly moves the ball and only made 1 bad decision yesterday. I thought he played pretty well under the circumstances. Anybody who knows football will agree. I am sure I am not done with this, so I will talk to you all soon..........

wow guys he said his thoughts? if you don't agree just disagree but you don't have to bash or belittle.

The play by play wasn't his focus. It was his commentaries about the plays...

this is why I only read on about every forum I've ever been a member of, to0many people can't stomach others opinions.

At 2:28 in the game the Rams touched the ball dead off a punt at the 2 yard yard line. Matt threw the last Interception at 1:32, watch the games and don't read box scores.

You're right. I'll watch the game next time. Thanks for the advice.

You'd be surprised how many people on here don't watch games.

Yet still come on here to make strong statements about what happened

The process in the first post is similar to what I do when I write my "game note" posts. I scribble individual notes after many of the plays, then coalesce it all into an analytical writeup when it's over.

No pressure?

Is that why bradford made mostly short drops, with quick short throws?

Gawd, I wish people would pretend they don't talk out of their ass.

Actually it's the other way around. There was no pressure because Bradford made quick, short throws not that he made quick short throws because there was pressure.

"Gawd, I wish people would pretend they don't talk out of their ass."

Take your own advice.:skep:

    • Oh, the high expectations after a draft. Keep your expectations low, people. Darin Gantt's latest "Ask The Old Guy" gives life to one of those lessons about pro football reality as a fan: "Rasheed Walker was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Packers, so Freeling is going to have to work. Hunter's got another big 'un in front of him in Bobby Brown III and a different kind of defensive tackle in Tershawn Wharton. Chris Brazzell II's got a lot of traffic at his position. Zakee Wheatley has to be better than the chronically underappreciated Nick Scott, and Sam Hecht is a fifth-round rookie at the hardest position on the line to play, who probably doesn't have immediate positional flexibility, and a solid free agent addition in Luke Fortner in front of him. "Fans generally love their draft class as soon as it arrives, because there is no evidence to the contrary yet. Once guys get on the field, the reality begins to creep in, and the seasoned among you remember that if you get three or four good players out of a draft, that was an amazing draft." https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-things-looking-up-after-the-draft-monroe-freeling-luke-kuechly-bryce-young-derrick-brown Don't get crazy. Winning the draft (or the offseason BTW) on paper always leads to good feelings and great expectations, especially when you seemingly succeeded the season before, but let's remember that the Panthers are very much a work in progress. Team building takes time. If we get a couple of starters out of the draft, it's a good draft, but three or four would be an amazing draft, and anything more than that is actually sensational--even if entails a few multiple high end rotational players along with three starters. Moreover, kind of within that same vein, the coaches have to let the kids off the chain. Remember the coach-speak of past coaches about competition that is anything but because coaches have their notions about veteran experience? Not saying that they're necessarily wrong, but sometimes I think their reluctance to put the young guys out there is based somewhat in dogma or possibly fear because big stakes are on the line (e.g., their jobs). It can be frustrating to say the least, but the coaches are supposed to know best. Again, I say all of this so that we can remember to temper expectations and keep them within the realm of reality. It's like telling your mind to think of it as something akin to under-promising and over-delivering. Leave room to be pleasantly surprised for the best case scenario, but be cognizant that that rarely happens. I would think at this point, most of us should be able to recognize growth when we see it, and sometimes that growth doesn't manifest itself in the form of immediate supremacy, but a setting of the stage for long term dominance for years to come. It seems like we're on track for an emergence by 2028 or 2029. We still have huge questions, but by 2029, hopefully we will take our seat at the table of the perennial contenders in the NFL.
    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
