Coach John Fox shifts blame to Panthers' 'personnel people'

Fox can STFU.

He saw what was happening in the offseason. He saw who we drafted. He knew what team he was going to have to work with. Richardson gave him the option to opt out of the last year of his contract and go look for work elsewhere and he chose to stay.

i believe this is true too. seems he didn't want to take the year off

I still say this is going to hurt the Panthers in the long run. If Fox is so respected around the league. They are not going to believe him as his voice gets louder after each loss? Because I thinks it's a safe bet to say the Panthers will not win again. So as the weeks go by and be blames the Organization instead of himself. Who will they believe? One thing you could never say about the Raiders is "they didn't try to win this year." But guess what, you can say that about the Panthers Organization. I know they are winning now, but get ready for a Tom Cable type coach and a long ride at fixing the reputation of the Panthers.

I side with Foxy on this one.

We've been saying for weeks now that this crap is more to do with Richardson and Hurney. Hurney can't say that though. Richardson says nothing. Hurney every now and then gets grilled by fans on WFNZ. Richardson may make a few phone calls to fans. But neither gets direct questions every week right after tough a tough loss like Fox does.

Fox finally snapped and said something he shouldn't have. I thank Fowler for making this already known story more public. Maybe now JR will pull a Jerry Jones and open his mouth. Fox said multiple times in his presser that he's "not getting into that" in terms of players we may see soon and that we'll have to ask the person in charge of stuff like that if you really have to know. Bitter? Sure. Angry? Sure. Telling the truth? Looks like it.

He has a right to be upset, but he knew what this season was going to be and he decided to stay and take the money. I actually like the guy a little better now that he is getting upset and lashing out a bit. He could just smile, take his paycheck, and wait until January. At least he cares enough to get frustrated.

Most folks have been saying all year that Richardson gutted the team to save money. So Fox saying it isn't news. I also think that most folks recognize that it isn't something we do all the time like some of the perennial bottom feeders. They know that once the CBA is signed, Richardson will open up the wallet. Truth is that if we had done well this year it would have encouraged JR to consider going on the cheap and dumping veterans routinely for cheap younger talent. The fact that it blew up in his face and we are awful has to give them pause and make then reconsider the youth movement stategy moving forward. I expect we will keep more veterans next time and bring in more free agents. Otherwise I think we could see a bad team for several years.

Fox basically confirms what everyone here has said to an exaggerated extent, and now these no-life nerds till wanna throw their little rocks. We should definitely be called the carolinapantieshuddle.com

The bucs got rid of there head coach and almost all there vets last year and still seemed to win 3 games and score more points. Seems to me like its the coaching that is failing not the players. Im gonna assume when Davidson runs 2 run plays that get stuffed and then comes back with a 2 WR set its the players fault.

Lets face it. Fox cant win without outstanding talent on both sides of the ball. The reason for that is he is a avg coach. Nothing great about him.

Does he have final say on the player decisions? No.

Does he have input? Historically, yes.

But as much as he wants to bellow about the players, if the stories of the coaching staff half-assing their jobs this season is true that falls squarely on Fox's shoulders and no one else's.

And for the record, buck passing isn't exactly a hallmark of great leadership.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
