Impact of Change at the Defensive staff

okay, basically the whole defensive staff will be gone. we know their contract expires. but i have two questions which i didn't see posted (if they're posted somewhere, please merge)

1) how will these changes affect the defensive personnel on the field?

2) why did the staff really leave? is it b/c of Fox or did they really get a better opportunity elsewhere?

if it's the former, then i don't know how much longer fox will last, since it'll look as if he was to blame for the defense and the coaches leaving. if it's the latter, it'll be near impossible to blame most of the stuff on fox.

Really its too early to know. If we keep the 4-3 in place then it should not be much adjustment at all but if we go with a 3-4 then its gonna be a big change and we are gonna have some growing pains from it. I think we will keep the 4-3 in place my self because we have the talent to win right now.

1- we find out who was the weak link, trgo or the man at the top

2- fox has a built in excuse....."but...but......he had to deal with a whole new defensive staff because the old one bailed"

3- if the coaches that left become successful elsewhere people will be screaming and reporters will be talking about the mistake that carolina made in letting them go

4- if the defense blows under the new staff then we likely won't have to deal with fox again and can get someone in here who can turn the club around for the better. if the new staff comes in here and we end up having a dominate defense and the offense keeps playing at the high level they were the last half of the season then we will be heading strong into the playoffs and have a great year. either way i am ok with it.

This would make a lot more sence if Trgovac was the first to announce he wasn't coming back and the rest of the coaches left seeing how a new DC would probably want new staff anyways.

Maybe the staff had a good idea Trgovac wasn't coming back before hand.

Or maybe it's a reaction to the Peppers comments. They don't want to be the scapgoats next offseason.

Who knows?

Fox was highly upset and disappointed with the defense not only in the playoff game, but last half of the season. He himself said change would be coming. Position coaches leaving shouldn't surprise anyone. They got offered a new challenge/job, with probably a pay raise. If offered that knowing that your current employer would only extend your job a year ~ it actually looks like common sense is being used.

As for Trgovac....a 2 year extension where most of the fans hate him anyways, and a new job and challenge doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Anyways, shouldn't take much more than a week or two for our new hires to be done.

Yea I doubt it will be hard finding a coaches when our team went 12-4 and we have atleast 2 up and coming stars on our D in Beason and Gamble.

One thing is for sure, THEY ALL HAVE JOBS ALREADY, which means people in the industry think they are valuable, which conflicts this message boards ignorance.

Or they could suck and thats why one went to the collage ranks and both others did not get Promoted at all and are still what they were here.

everyone jumping ship at the same time without being fired and most just taking the same job some where else is weird and seems to imply that something bigger is going on in the panthers. But what is it that's making everyone jump ship?

this is what concerns me the most about these moves. only fox knows the answer to that

if anyone had any kind of idea if this was the case, it'll be Fox. the fact that so many defensive assistants left eliminates the possibility of him promoting from within. if the staff knew about it, i would think the assistants would line up at the chance to receive a promotion and a pay increase

question is would anyone, in light of this, will be willing to work with fox? this goes back to my 2nd question. this will look bad regardless for fox imo.

So how much does it suck for some people here that Trgo rejected the Panthers offer, and they didn't fire him? I mean, we were supposed to can his ass, not make him an offer and get turned down. What a crock, huh? :)

I think he's going to go somewhere else and build a top ten defense.

our major weakness was the defense, our defensive staff was told they could go find work elsewhere. they did. the way it was done was better than them just getting fired as far as they were concerned. the defense wasn't living up to it's potential so they had to change.

they may be better than the other options in the places where they were going. to me that says more about where they were going than where they are coming from.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
