Panthers starting Clausen vs Bucs

The initial thought was that they were going to sit Clausen this year and let him learn behind Moore but things didn't play out they way they wanted it to happen so instead they decided to see what the kid can do.

That said, I don't think its time to give up on a rookie QB just yet because I don't think he is as bad as people make him out to be. Clausen is going to make mistakes but remember its a learning curve but I think a lot of his mistakes was because of poor coaching and also believe that the offense just isn't working together.

Give Clausen a solid oline and a solid run game and I bet you he would be a tad bit better.

I really don't think it is going to matter who we start at QB. Does Clausen give us the best chance to win? Maybe... he's had more experience under center than Pike, or Edwards, but that's not saying much.

But then again, maybe not. Even Fox has stated that the problem may start at the QB position, but it's much bigger than that (in between sips of water, of course). :)

I agree but that could be said about most QBs. The good thing about Clausen was that he was supposed to already be able to do this. Now that he needs a lot of work he is no more special than anyone else that came out. He has average height, average arm strength, average everything really. His motion is bad and his release point is too low, two things that can't normally be changed. That "high ceiling" he was supposed to have doesn't seem so high anymore. Now nothing stands out about him so why waste time on him when other guys might have more potential?

You get what I'm saying? I'm not saying I agree but now that there is nothing special about this kid why waste the time when other guys might be more physically gifted?

Who else do we have at the moment that you consider more physically gifted?

We don't have to have them now we can get them in the next year since it's gonna take 2-3 with Clausen anyway but I'll play.

Pike has the size that you would want in a QB. He just needs to put on some weight and strength. He has a better release than Jimmy as well. Jimmy has the arm strength advantage but not by too much.

Moore has the size over Clausen as well. He also has a better/quicker release than Jimmy. Arm strength is debatable but nothing indicates either way who has a stronger arm.

There is two on our current. Now with some real coaching etc etc etc...

Well it's settled! Moore should start on Sunday.

...oh wait.

don't be dense. This isn't about "Clausen being better than Moore." Or hell, Clausen being "the next FRANCHISE QB !!!" or even "CLAUSEN IS A GOOD QB!!", though it is a bit of "Maybe Clausen can turn out better than he's looked."

This is the fact that Clausen is further along than Pike or Edwards. Why start him? Because the other two really are further behind. Maybe Pike has some great things going for him (as you mentioned) and if Clausen continues to struggle we WILL see him, as Pike is getting more reps now. And Edwards, well, yeah. There's like 4 threads debating Edwards already so lets keep them there.

For now, Clausen is our best bet. He was not our best bet before Moore got injured, and I think most everyone would agree with that.

Why can't we just wish the kid well and hope for the best and expect the worst.

I mean, it's not like Johnny Unitas resurrected from the dead could win with this team.

The season is lost anyway. It ain't like this team has any hope of much more than finishing the season...in fact if they didn't it would be a mercy killing.

If he gets better great, if he doesn't, there are veteran free agents and a probable top 3 draft pick waiting.

My response wasn't about who should start Sunday, but rather who on our roster is worth investing 2-3 years into. Since Clausen isn't clearly ahead of any of them with his game, and he is probably the least physically gifted, it was for the other two. The only thing Clausen had going for him was his "NFL readiness, perfect delivery, accurracy" and those aren't true as we've seen. So now we have to build a QB from scratch. Why not start with the ones that are more physically gifted, that's all. I was just playing along with Catman's game. But you are more than welcome to take it any way you like.

I really do hate posts like this. If we aren't supposed to talk about issues of concern and our opinions about the team, the site wouldn't exist.

Do you really want to come here and read a thread that says:

"The Panthers are playing the Bucs this weekend. Go play guys. Good luck"

Then have the responses read:

"Good Luck"

"Do well"

"Play your best!"

"Go Panthers"

"Play Hard"
