How many times does Godfrey have to get beat

Not my question. I asked would YOU argue that Godfrey is better than Martin.

I just use the old fashioned eye ball test. That imo tells you more than going back to consult stat sheets for games you don't watch.

Why does that even matter to you since we put Godfrey and Martin both on the field. The question should be is Godfrey better than Pugh or Hudson. I say yes, we're better with him on the field than either of them. I spent a lot of time at camp.

Especially when you don't agree with the conclusion

The first thing they tell you in a statistics class is that you can make stats say anything you want them to say. Any economist will tell you that.

The stats you linked to use a rating based on one man's formula, and even he acknowledged that the formula cannot take into account a player's total performance. There are just too many variables involved to use stats solely as a measure of most any player's effectiveness.

On that point, I think we probably agree. But I must say I hope the new coach looks for an improvement over Godfrey, or at least helps Godfrey improve on being in position more often.

for 3 straight years he has been out of position giving up huge plays. Martin has given us hope.....

getting burned by Housh is about as bad as it gets....I guess a TE would be worse but that wouldn't be a WR.

Did I ever say anything about Martin? In fact I really like Martin so you bringing him up in your argument is retarded.

Gamble got beat on that play too. Flacco had all day to throw the ball. Godfrey is bad, but he isn't the only problem on the defense.

I also add that I would rather keep Godfrey than Marshall.

godfrey has shown potential to be a good safety he isn't there yet, but some good ones take awhile. People all but wrote off Landry in Washington and now he is having a pro-bowl season.

By the way some of you portray Godfrey, you'd think he was allowing 60+ yard TD passes all game, every game.

My problem with Godfrey is that he takes terrible angles at times, a vestige from his CB playing days.

It's amazing that of all the things we have to complain about, it's this that gets a lot of attention.

this. and when godfrey comes up and makes a great tackle, which he does or the ball isn't thrown his way because he has good coverage no one notices. It's either announcers giving him way too much credit or CRA and company destroying him

The ironic part about this is that Godfrey will probably be on the short list of players who get Pro Bowl consideration or even All Pro consideration, sadly enough. The media is that oblivious. When the "measurable" statistics look strong then the play by play stuff goes out the window. He costs this defense just as much as he helps it, but people going into our games during their "research" that originates on NFL.com looking up our leading tacklers and interception guys see Godfrey's name all over the place and start gushing about how well he has been playing this year.

He gets a lot of tackles because he plays deep center field and picks up scraps while giving up everything underneath because he lacks awareness to jump routes. He gets a lot of picks for the same reason when QB's over throw their targets.

He's never directly in the play, he's always around it. He never asserts and defends a pass completion, he just waits for the WR to come down and then tackles him. It's sad to watch.

It's all opinion. How the opinion is formed depends on the individual.

Marshall is the problem, not Godfrey. Godfrey only really gets beat in 4-3 packages when Marshall is in there. When Munnerlyn is out wide he almost never gets beat. I don't know if it's a communication or chemistry issue, but the blame isn't on Godfrey.

And I still contend a safety getting beat is the end result of a CB not doing his job. The safety is bigger, stronger and slower than the CB. If the CB can't cover the WR running past him, how would you expect a safety to manage?

Godfrey's decline has been directly correlated with the suck factor of Marshall- who got toasted more than a friggin' Bojangles biscuit yesterday. But I don't see anyone calling out Marshall- just the guy who's trying to have his back.

It's not just Godfrey. The Panthers cornerback's are playing like garbage right now to. Houshmandzadeh, Heap, Mason, Stallworth and Boldin were burning the Panther's secondary. On top of that Ray Rice and Leron McClain got free from the Panther's LB's a few time's which hurt. Harris, Beason, and Anderson need to get the coverage scheme down which will shut down the underneath pass. Then the Panthers need to quit playing zone D and play straight up man to man. Also if Marshall, Gamble, and Godfrey don't want to play on a 1-9 team than let some guys play that want to. At this point it wouldn't hurt to start Munnerlyn and McClain at the CB's and Pugh and Martin at the S position. Hell, why not even let C.J. Wilson get some time out there. The problem is everyone is giving up on this team.
