Lockout 2011: Another Step Closer to Reality

If there is a lock out then I will be very surprised. There is too much money to be made/loose in the NFL and I think they are just going to wait till the last minute to get it done. the 18 game schedule is retarded in my eyes but I like the idea of having a bigger roster that way we don't have to worry about loosing players by wavier like we have in the past.

By the way didnt we loose Tony Brown and Jovan Haye because we couldn't keep them on our roster at the time because of the so called talent we had on the D line?

Well it seems that we could really use those players right now.

I truly hope there is not lockout. One of the things I look forward to all year is the NFL season.

With such a massive recession just now starting to show signs of ending, friends who have been out of work for a year or more, and everyone else wanting to make sure they hold their jobs, it is going to be hard to really accept either side's story.

A large portion of the country has been neck deep in ooze for a few years now. I don't think they are going to have much sympathy for the owners or players.

I am an NFL ***** so I will be back watching as soon as it is available, but they could really damage a sport that sits atop the most watched mountain.

Seems to me something will get worked out before the season starts. Really only making 50% of your money is still crappy compared to 100%. Its just incompetents on both sides that has stopped it thus far. We know that the owners want less revenue share, less media sharing, a rookie cap, and longer season. I think they will meet in the middle with the NFLPA giving up some sharing and a rookie cap. That is if they see its in there best interest and dont stand pat like they have.

Yes. But...

The owners are going to get paid during the lockout (due to TV deals) so have much less incentive than the players who will not get paid.

what are the NFLPA's demands?

This is mostly about the owners wanting a new deal which is significantly worse than the current one. I think the owners have been relatively clear on what they want.

What the owners have actually proposed is that the players take the same cut (roughly 60 percent) of a smaller pie. Under the current deal, owners receive a credit of slightly more than $1 billion for operating and investment expenses off the top of an annual revenue pool that’s approximately $9 billion before the remainder of the money is divided. The owners are seeking an increase to about $2.4 billion in credits, a number they say reflects the changing economic realities of the era. Whereas stadiums which were partly or wholly subsidized by taxpayers were once the norm, owners are now pouring much more capital into state-of-the-art facilities – essentially saddling them with enormous mortgage payments. The owners believe that the players should account for their risk and the bounty (in the form of increased future revenues) it provides.

The NFLPA has some needs such as better pensions and don't like the 18 game season, but mostly they don't want to lose too much of what they currently have:

I know, I was responding to that one guy's stupid post that he still hasn't backed up.

don't look for an official statement because there isn't one.

Less work, more money.

Same demands all employees have
