Cam Newton...

Watching the SEC Championship game and I was wondering what people would think about getting Cam Newton as a consolation prize if we mess up and actually win a few games down the stretch?

He seems like he has all the tools however he never gets touched and has all day to throw. But if he comes out and has a good combine/pro day he could turn out to be a great plan B if we don get "Lucky".

Newton looks to have all the tools. He is big , strong, athletic and has a good arm and throwing motion. Honestly I would take him as not a consolation prize but as a perfectly acceptable alternative to Luck. He reminds me of Josh Freeman for the Bucs. I would be glad to have him as our quarterback without feeling we missed out on anything.

If Russ Grimm is hired, and Luck doesn't come out, or we don't get #1 overall, i could see it possibly happening (just a hunch) he reminds me of Big Ben, and Grimm could (or could not) see the same thing.
grimm wouldn't draft him and wouldn't use him right.

it's going to take an innovative mind to use newton right and an offense built around him. that ain't grimm. he'd be as happy about drafting a QB in the first round as cowher was in drafting ben and would do all it took to keep the QB in the pocket and the RBs running the ball 75% of the time.

Would love to see Cam here in Carolina. Boy, does he have an arm on him. It just gets me excited thinking of the possible, Newton to Smith or Newton to Gettis combo. If we were to happen to win a game or two, and miss out on Luck, I wouldnt be upset. Well I wouldnt, as long as we got Newton

Luck is far and away the best QB prospect, but Newton is an absolute beast as well. He reminds me of a young Daunte Culpepper in his prime; big arm, great scrambler, looks more like a linebacker than a QB.

While I do think Luck has to be our pick if we end up at #1, if something happens and we're not Newton would be a mighty spiffy consolation prize.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
