Pissed That We Drafted Luck

I for one would be pissed if we did not get him. I know "experts" are wrong a lot of times but from everything I have read on him he sounds like a home run. In the last 10 years 8 QBs have been picked #1 overall and none of them have had a report card as good as luck. With that said he will end up being Ryan Leaf part deus.

Same here. Though I believe there is no chance in hell he ends up being a Ryan Leaf. He's too smart for that. Leaf was a party animal with no work ethic. Luck is not even close to being that kind of player.

I wouldn't be mad if we took Luck. For awhile I've been on the fence whether I wanted us to take Luck or trade down for picks and keep Clausen and I'm leaning more and more toward Luck. However, I find it funny that people act like this is the only imaginable route to go and anything else is insane.

It's completely possible that Luck ends up a bust.

It's completely possible that Clausen develops into a very good QB.

I'd say not only possible but extremely likely that we could net a huge amount of picks trading down (two early 1st rounders, a 2nd and 3rd would not be out of the question).

One one hand, Luck is our elite franchise QB for the next 10+ years giving us more than enough time to build a yearly contender around him. We trade Clausen and he does nothing (or is merely mediocre) on his new team.

On the other hand, Luck is a bust and Clausen develops into a very good QB for another team. We pass on a huge amount of picks to take Luck and trade Clausen away only to regret both decisions.

There's two ways we can go. One will end up being the right one and there's no way to tell right now with 100% certainty which one it is.

For anyone that really thinks Luck is guaranteed to be the next Peyton Manning, the guy is still really young and has limited experience (and hence a limited amount of game tape to grade him). There have been much bigger "can't miss, absolute lock first ballot HOF" prospects that have ended up doing jack sh*t.

Just take a look at this asshole...

How did he end up? Oh yeah, he did nothing other than become a massive disappointment and now runs a photography studio.

Like I said, I wouldn't be against taking Luck from everything I know about him but let's be realistic here, there's never a lock in the draft.

Which is clear with hindsight years after he's drafted.

True but he wore out his welcome in GB fast, didn't he call the place the village of Green Bay or something? After that he didn't have a terrible career in Indy.

Id be happy with Luck, when you see him play it looks exactly like the same style of play you saw with Sam Bradford. Sometimes the analyst are right with talent and projections and sometimes they're wrong but honestly I feel that Luck will live up to the hype.

We need offense. Someone who can make reads quickly and throw a dart. Whether they actually become that is up to the coaching staff. You know whatever coaching staff comes in are going to try to make them succeed. I don't think a lot of people are afraid of Jimmy Clausen throwing all over them right now. They stack the run and take their chances with guys downfield and since Jimmy has no balls and doesn't take advantage of single coverage matchups he won't scare anyone. With Andrew Luck there's that anxiety factor. Remember when we played Matt Ryan for the first time.. Everyone was hating on him, saying there's no way.. but people still had that small gut feeling that he could just light it up. He didn't do it then, but did do it later that season.

Plus he sells the play action really well.

No one would be mad if we took Luck, but if we could get a Herschel Walker/Ricky Williams deal for him, I think the front office would be crazy not to take that deal. I said it before, I would rather have the best team in NFL history over having the best QB in NFL history. And with this kind of deal, we can get a QB and alot more.

    • Moved to Tuesday, not Wednes because of scheduling with Flyers game or something in Philly. But I don't feel good about the Heat.  It has been a great season regardless.  Team just been playing so hard to move up since a bad start and just picked a bad time to get gassed.  It's like almost everyone is shooting cold at the same time even wide open shots.   Maybe atmosphere and playoffs kick off a spark.  I'd rather be in a series than a one and done though. The team has a good foundation to build on regardless of what happens.
    • Dan's been talking about upgrading CB since beginning of free agency
    • I'm more of a Hornets fan than I am a Panthers fan, I've watched a ton of this franchise the last 20 years. I post all day on RealGM. Don't get your hopes up, this is setting us up for a 20 point loss to the Heat and a swift end to the season. Spoelstra has always solved us, the Heat have two bigs that we have no answers for, and Jaquez is a certified Hornets killer that always plays us like he has a grudge on us. The Hornets being a top 10 team all year and a top 5 team the last half of the year and then flat out missing the playoffs is incredibly on brand for this crappy, horrendous franchise. I would love to be proven wrong. But I've suffered enough to know this little scheme the team is pulling. We finished 2 games out of 6th and guaranteed playoffs, and we blew two games to the Pacers and Nets earlier in the season, when they weren't trying to win. It's just who we are, Hornets DNA
