Fox's Departure Essentially Confirmed

Not that it wasn't something we didn't already know, but this clip from an article on nfl.com is kind of the final nail in the coffin.

Securing an overall winning regular-season record, Fox left the field with his arms raised and fists clenched. He then hustled to the locker room, where captain Jordan Gross was waiting to hand him the game ball.

"We develop a lot of relationships here. There are a lot of high character guys in that locker room that I appreciate," Fox said. "It means a lot to me."

Later, Fox quickly grabbed a water bottle as he appeared to be on the verge of choking up.

"It was an emotional day," he acknowledged.

Denied a contract extension the past two years and seemingly at odds with the offseason roster-gutting that left the Panthers (2-12) short on talent and experience, Fox is coaching out the string in the last year of his deal

This win means even more to me now than it did earlier. We really did have some great times with the Fox here, and I was always proud to have him as our coach. I pray he finds success elsewhere-but not against us.

Best of Luck, Foxy, for both of us, moving forward.

Thanks for the memories. You'll be missed man.

I can agree with this post 100%...how can people be so irate with someone that has without a doubt been the best coach in this franchise's history?

Greener pastures are certainly ahead after this year, but show some respect for someone you undoubtedly cheered for more times than not in his tenure...

I appreciate Fox for what he was but I want to move on. It's kind of like that girlfriend that was great when you were in high school but you it's going to be something better when you get to college. I will have fond memories of what Fox did for us but he has worn out his welcome.

that's what makes it so pathetic. it was the same with jake. just because he was our best didn't make him that good.

There was a time when Fox and Delhomme were both near the top at their respective jobs.

I'll assume from your comment, that you weren't as much of a fan then as you are now, but, don't take away what they did out of ignorance.

I got no problem saying their our best.

uh try again. what year are you talking about? the superbowl run? jakes has never been that good. he's always been a gun slinger and fox has yet to provide us with 2 winning seasons. compared to other franchises, they have been mediocre.

or you might be talking about 04, when moose put up awesome numbers? or the year we went 12-4 and got destroyed at home by the same team we beat today. don't sugarcoat what fox has done here. it really hasn't been much. we have been spoiled as a franchise and i dont think many would disagree.

There was a time that Jake was a good QB. Elite? No, not even close. But good? Yes. He didn't make the Pro Bowl for no reason. And how does Moose put up awesome number without a QB to give him the ball?

Fox was and still is a good coach. Period. We have almost always either been in the playoffs or been in the hunt till the very end of the season. He didn't choose to make us the youngest, most inexperienced team this year.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
