Exhibit A of why you don't draft Newton in the 1st round

Actually Vick was injured while he was in the pocket and got sacked not while he was on the run.

As for building an offense that needs similar quarterbacks, Green Bay went from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers or in other words a pocket passer to a guy who is mobile without changing offenses or personnel. You can put in plays for QBs with different skills without changing everything.

Cam Newton will be an elusive QB if he wants to have any success in the NFL. He isn't fast enough to just run away from NFL linebackers and defensive backs like he does in college. So, he likely won't be running down the field nearly as much as Vick. He will take some hits out of the pocket, but he's a big kid and can probably absorb them.

Not true. In the pocket, a QB receives an inordinate amount of protection from the officials (Can't touch the helmet. Can't go for the legs. Can't lead with anything but the shoulder. Can't hit more than a millisecond after the ball's released). Outside, he's just like any other skill player.

i agree with this. the way things have changed in the NFL, the QB in the pocket is as safe a place as you can be on the field.

that said, newton is a good bit bigger and a lot younger (which is a factor). when you get older, you are just more susceptible to injuries and they take longer to heal.

potential injuries would be a minor concern with newton, but not enough to not draft him.
