Rob Ryan on the short list?

So says John Czarnecki at http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/nfl-week-17-countdown-chicago-bears-green-bay-packers-010111

With John Fox coaching his final game with the Panthers, the club is expected to conduct interviews this week with prospective head-coaching candidates. Rob Ryan, defensive coordinator of the Browns, is on the list and possibly San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera.

If true, what is it about Cleveland that we love so much?

CZAR’S SCOOP: With John Fox coaching his final game with the Panthers, the club is expected to conduct interviews this week with prospective head-coaching candidates. Rob Ryan, defensive coordinator of the Browns, is on the list and possibly San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. There is no doubt that owner Jerry Richardson prefers to stay away from the high-profile coaches who would demand twice as much as an assistant coach. Arizona’s Russ Grimm could also be a candidate.

None of these guys will create the buzz that JR and the Panthers need to survive this offseason. A large portion of the fan base will quickly decide the Panthers are irrelevant and not worth the financial investment when and if the team hires another boring, relatively unknown defensive coordinator who has been passed over for other HC jobs, but someone seems to think he'll work just fine in Charlotte.

JR didn't get a business worth over a billion by being a dummy. He may have screwed up somewhat this year by thinking Fox would work his coaching magic with the young guys but now even this has the potential to be a great move since we have the #1 pick and plenty of dough. JR will get it done.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
