What's the deal in Carolina with Cowher. I'm in Houston and was always hearing that Cowher was a lock for the Carolina Head Coaching job. Looking at the other threads on this board he isn't even mentioned. What happened? I know a lot of Texans fans down here wanted him but I don't want to go back to a 3-4 defense and I know thats what he is going to bring where ever and when ever he starts coaching again. I also heard that he wants to be GM and HC. Well I'm glad we are staying put with Kubiak and the word is we are bringing in Wade Phillips as the DC.

We have a GM in place in Hurney, which is one of the most polarizing subjects among our fans at the moment, but regardless it pushes Cowher out unless he relinquishes his desire to act as GM.

Secondly, many believe that Richardson is soured towards retreads after having been burned by Seifert and the general lack of success from retreads in NFL history.

Thirdly, while Cowher has generally enjoyed success as a professional coach but he has been far from Elite in many fans opinions and he is a known entity, many fans desire for a new up and comer who is an unknown that allows us to have huge pipe dreams of success.

You can have him. We don't want him.

or at least I don't.

Just because he lives here doesn't mean the people in charge of the organization want him here.

Nah, I'll pass on him too. Our fans are fickled and are just looking for a saviour. If I remember correctly the pittsburgh fans were calling for his head after the first 4 years up there too. I'm glad we are sticking to what we have because our defense cost us all the games we lost. When you lose your probowl starting MLB and two promising young DEs and make a major mistake of letting Dunta Robinson the best DB we had walk...its no surprise we were so bad on defense.

See, this is why I like to come over to you guys message boards...the fans in here are more knowledgeable about football in general. P.S. Don't tell the Texans fans I said that..lol

At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
