Why stick with Jimmy Clausen?

i maintain my original position on the clausen pick, it was a waste of a pick then and it was a waste of a pick now.

yep. The fact they knew Fox was gone made drafting QBs pointless. New HC's don't use recycled QBs left over from prior coaches unless they are proven Superbowl caliber.

At the top of my head:

Aaron Rogers

David Carr

Phillip Rivers

Quinn/Anderson

JP losman

All are Qb's drafted by a previous coach and started by the next coach.

Right now, I'd be willing to go along with that.

With that being said, I'll stand by my argument that if Luck isn't there, I think we need to do other things with the number 1 pick. So that leaves free agency as an option for us to address the Quarterback position.

I'll stand by that too. If we can't get a sure thing at #1 we should turn it into better value.

I disagree. There is no such thing as a sure thing and QB must be addressed in this draft ASAP and without gambling that someone else who needs a QB takes the one we want. There will be another workable QB talent in this draft (there are several).

While they may not be as polished or immediately ready we need a franchise-leading QB. Draft it - therein lies your value.

no excuses on why he did bad, what did you see him do that makes you think "mark sanchez type of player"?

Rayzor, this is really an intellectually dishonest question. There are not excuses as to why Clausen did not look good this past season, but there are reasons. None of the QBs looked particularly good, so that should tell you something. I Know. "They all suck!" That's a little too simplistic of an answer for a question that's loaded with underlying dynamics.

There is a breakdown of new HCs the past 3 years......there has been an absurd number of hires during that span. New HCs get rid of the old QBs with the first 2 seasons.

The only QB you posted that wasn't replaced when a new coach arrived was Rivers. Aaron Rodgers could be included as well with Rivers as he never played except under the new coach.

The other list is LONG. 2 years or less and new HCs just about always find their own QB to bring in. I will try to find the old post where the new HC's and broken down.

disagree. i want to know what positives have been seen. if there were no positives then just say so.

i never hear anyone talk about his positives, only that he couldn't do anything because yada yada yada.

if there were positives to his play this year it would be nice for someone to say what they were. so far i haven't seen much.

I agree with the poster who said that many here seem to be hanging around on Lucks pubic hairs a bit too much.

However, if there are any positives that I could mention about Clausen, it would be what I saw from him tonight (yes, i have to download games) against ATL.

There were more than a few cases where at least he stood in the pocket where really it was collapsing around him (sadly sometimes within inches) and he made a throw. Regardless or whether it was dropped by rookie receivers or it was a bad throw...at least the guy is beginning to come to a point where he is not running scared at the slightest pressure as was in the last few games and (at least on a few occasions in the ATL game) was at least attempting to make passes.

I'm not defending Clausen (I like Moore) but that being said I think it is really sad that so many have already thrown the guy under the bus damn that started back in week 7) considering we all knew what we were dealing with this season as far as rookie receivers, skimming down payrolls for the possible lockout...etc.

I would even say that if you put Luck in the exact same situation (same rookie receivers, same busted up O-line, and same dynamics of this season with the management/coaching), the end results would not be much different. Maybe a few more wins but nowhere near the dream team so many seem to think Luck can bring to Charlotte~

Put that 21 year old rookie in this years team with the worlds best DB's blitzing him ( we are talking about NFL after all) every other play and very few options to throw down field to and no matter how much of a stud you look like at Stanford you wont be scrambling much more than once or twice before you are injured or you have no choice but the throw it away, check down, or take a sack (same as Clausen's season)
