Bad news for Panthers, regarding CBA

Has Charles Johnson made any comments about how he hopes he can remain a Panther?

I don't think Kalil would want to venture off. Nothing he has said, just a gut feeling.

I don't follow Johnson though and don't know anything about him, if he's content here or what not. Anyone know?

I think one reason why there hasn't been an agreement is because the 18 game season rule. Teams want to make more money where players would want to get paid more if they play more games but they also don't want an 18 game season because they fear it will shorten their careers. I don't want it at all, I think its a bad idea.

One upcoming rule change that will really benefit us is how draft picks won't get paid as much money. I love this idea, how many times have top picks took off with the money and ran? Now they will have to earn their pay and we won't have to worry about another Jamarcus Russell with the new rule.

i think the herd mentality has shifted away from richardson on this one irt the other owners.

Yeah, "Lead the charge, we're right behind you every step of the way Jerry".

As Fiz alluded above, Richardson may not be the best guy to get information from about the CBA. He is on the extreme hardline fringe at this point which is not where some other very influential owners are like Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft. Goodell also seems to want something to get done. So I would think that there will continue to be a lot of back and forth about this but I would think Richardson is not representing the mainstream. I wonder how much power he is being given to negotiate as well. With an extremist view he might find he is losing not gaining support.

Well... JR is co-chair of the CBA committee. That is not to say he couldn't be over ruled by the other owners though.

Thats right and I think when they decided to scrap the old agreement, owners were firmly on his side. But as the deadline approaches and the lockout becomes a real possibility, there may be a desire to compromise such as with the 18 game season. JR has continued to take a more hardline approach. It remains to be seen how much of the conversation is reality or posturing at this point.

I believe JR wants to get something done as well. What would be the point of actively seeking to not get a CBA done before the deadline?

In all negotiations there has to be some hard asses, playing a good cop/bad cop routine. JR represents all the things that the owners wished to accomplish and the president of the players union represents everything that they want to accomplish. Between the two are where the negotiations are made.

If anyone thought that these negotiations wouldn't go down to the wire they were sucking on a pipe dream.

:mad:This makes no f**king sense how Owners and players can't come to dumbass agreement. It's all about money and greed between both parties. It seems both sides could care less about fans right now. They may say they do but behind close doors they could careless. This so f**king dumb.:ma:

Maybe someone (owners) doesn't want an agreement...right now. So, they make unreasonable demands that cannot be met to make sure that there is a lockout. Then the serious negotiations can begin, when they have the upper hand.

Jerry has a duty as the owner to represent the team. Insinuating that the CBA negotiations are not going well doesn't help get Luck or Harbaugh because

1) They might decide to wait a year

2) They may not view JR as a player friendly owner even though he is

Couldn't JR keep his damn mouth shut about the CBA for a couple of weeks?

    • It’s one thing if we’re converting the salaries of a Turk Wharton or Tommy Tremble.  This is Derrick Brown.  He’ll end up with a whole new contract in a couple years anyway.  And he’ll earn it too.
    • My general thoughts on the roster as it stands right now:  - Most interesting positions to watch: TE, NT, WR.  - If we add a TE I feel like it'll be a bigger name FA or Kenyon Sadiq in the 1st round. I don't expect us to take a TE that early with our need at tackle, though, so it's likely one of the top FA TEs or we ride with Tremble/Sanders/Evans again. Signing a mid-level FA or drafting another mid-round TE isn't going to help us at this point. We have three of those guys already.  - I don't buy the 1st/2nd round WR hype. I do think we will sign someone to play the slot because XL is... not good. John Metchie, Juan Jennings and Calvin Austin would make sense if the money does.  - NT could be interesting because I don't get the sense that they view Bobby Brown as a true starter. This could be a position we look to add a veteran starter at or possibly take one early in the draft.  - Devin Lloyd was a huge addition, but we need another starter beside him. I fully expect us to go after one in the 2nd round. Jacob Rodriguez makes a ton of sense here.  - The Luke Fortner signing gives us a veteran fallback at center this season. I don't expect he'll end up being our long-term starter, but it's likely he will at least begin the year atop the depth chart. Even if we draft a center it's unlikely that player ends up being a day-one starter. But I think right now we're likely targeting a center in the 3rd-4th round as that seems to be where the value is.  - We have no punter on the roster. Interested to see if we sign a veteran or go the draft/UDFA route.  - The OT situation is pretty bleak. I now fully expect us to take a tackle at #19, but even after the Stone Forsythe signing we also need better depth there. Brady Christensen would be an idea re-signing; I also like Jamaree Salyer from the Chargers as a younger option that still has room to develop.  - Guard depth is also lacking. Again, having a versatile backup like Brady Christensen would go a long way toward having some security for our entire OL, but even if he comes back we should add another veteran backup, IMO.  - I assume Lathan Ransom would be the starting FS if we played today, but we know Evero loves him some Nick Scott so I won't be surprised if/when we re-sign him. He's basically the defensive version of David Moore, unfortunately. Ideally we'd look to add a true FS, but I don't get the sense that is a big priority at the moment.  - Nickel corner is a need and I fully expect us to sign someone in the next few days to upgrade over Chau Smith-Wade. Long-term, I won't be shocked if we go CB earlier in the draft than people might expect given Mike Jackson's contract expires after this year.  - I wouldn't be shocked to see us sign a RB. Sean Tucker or Brian Robinson could be interesting. We know what Chuba can do, but Jonathon Brooks has to be considered a question mark at this point.
    • Considering the Raiders and Crosby’s disagreements about his health late last year and the Ravens’ history of being an extremely well run organization I lean towards the Ravens not being in the wrong here
