A.J. Green thread

Green missed games in 2009 due to injury. In 2010, he was suspended. Injuries are a slight concern but eh, if he's the real deal you take him. He is one of the highest rated players in this year's draft.

From ESPN about him in 2009:

If that's it, then I don't see injuries as a concern at all.

There is no question that Green is an amazing talent, with blazing speed, catlike reflexes, and if the ball is in reach it's as good as caught. What good is any of that with Clausen at QB? Green would be demanding a trade by the end of the season, and I'd agree with him. He doesn't want to waste his talent any more than poor Smitty. Join the Cam train already.

I'm just so angry that the NFL is only allowing teams to get a QB by drafting one this year!

Interesting, again.

Well this time it's interesting because it sounds like you made up some stuff this time to suit your needs.

Care to show how you reached the conclusion that Blackmon is stronger than Green?

And I'm getting ready to look into the "missing games" issue with Green you mentioned.

As I said, your just an SEC hater trying to prove a non-existant point.

Take Green.

First off Blackmon is 6'1 not 6'2.

Justin Blackmon

Speed

Ok now concerning the speed aspect. Justin Blackmon is decebtiviely fast as his 40 time was actually only .05 seconds slower than Green's. The thing is most people think they can jam Blackmon at the line but he is so strong that he will either push past you or he will burn past you as he has a great burst. For an example see Blackmon vs. Amukamara where he just flat out abused Amukamara.

Size

Now there is no doubt that Green is taller than Blackmon, but there is also no denying that Blackmon is thicker than Green. Blackmon uses his thickness to shield taller defenders away from the jump ball and he also uses his thickness as an advantage to back trying to jam him at the line. Green uses his size for jump balls as he can just put up his hands and he will make the play over most backs. However because of his lack of thickness he can easily be jammed by defensive backs as Justin Blackmon makes up for his lack of height with a 40 inch vertical.

Strength

All I have to say is that there are reports out there that say Justin Blackmon is going to break the record for bench presses at the combine if he declares so go ahead and argue with that.

Here is what Blackmon has done against top competition

vs. Prince Amukamara/Dejon Gomes (Nebraska): 5 receptions, 157 yards, 2 touchdowns.

vs. Aaron Williams/Curtis Brown/Chykie Brown (Texas): 9 receptions, 145 yards, 1 touchdown.

Regarding A.J. Green, you guys already know the pros...however, here are the cons.

Cons: The junior receiver is thin and will need to bulk up before he moves on to the NFL. Even at the college level Green hasn’t been much of a threat for yards after contact. Not only does Green lack the strength and bulk to break tackles, he often doesn’t try, instead choosing to slide to the turf or dart for the sideline. His lack of prototypical bulk (215-220 pounds for his frame) could also lead to durability concerns—the Bulldog pass catcher missed three games as a sophomore due to injury. Green missed one game after he suffered a bruised lung/injured rib and then two more with a shoulder injury to end the regular season before he returned for the Independence Bowl. At his current weight and strength Green will have a limited route tree in the NFL; it remains to be seen whether or not he can take the pounding associated with going over the middle. Wait is someone really comparing Green to Jarret? LOL.

You know I am. Jarret was WAY better in college and had tons more potential than Green did. Only reason he's a top 5 talent this year is because the draft class is so weak, just like green's game. Might as well just flush 50 mil. right down the toilet if you draft Green...

Wow, I really am amazed at the fact that no one actually reads the hidden messages I write. How on earth could anyone take these comments seriously?

AJ has run a 4.3 40.

Blackmon is currently listed by multiple sites as a 4.5. An incredible difference.

All I have to say is that there are reports out there that say Justin Blackmon is going to break the record for bench presses at the combine if he declares so go ahead and argue with that.

This line just makes me laugh period because of how made up it sounds.

When Blackmon breaks the record for most bench presses in February, I'll consider being impressed. Until then, I'm gonna go ahead and say you either made it up or chalk it up to hear-say from someone else.

Care for me to dig up some of Green stats on some of the defenses he's faced over the years...?

Yeah I didn't think you'd want me to either...

Oh, and you wanted some Cons too didn't you? Well beside the fact that he is one..

Weaknesses: Biggest weakness is that he's not a great route runner, needs to work on making sharper cuts to get separation in man coverage... Played in Oklahoma State's spread offense which focused on getting him the ball and inflated his statistics... Received a DUI in October, 2010 which resulted in a one game suspension... Would benefit staying for his Junior year, would challenge Alshon Jeffrey for the number one receiver spot next year.

Green is guaranteed to gain weight. It's just a part of making the transition. Is Blackmon really gonna change his instincts?

Here's a good site that takes a good look at them both, but it's clear who the favorite is..

Who would you rather have? Moss or Boldin?
