When I look back at this season and the memories I’m going to have, the highs and lows, there were a lot of situations to learn from. That’s one good thing that going 2-14 can get you. You definitely appreciate those wins more when they come, and you value those opportunities when you get to play in meaningful football games.

If you’re going to go 13-3 you’re going to need a little luck. I don’t want to downplay what the Falcons have done, they’re not just lucky to be 13-3, but it was Week 17 before they had to make their first roster move of the year. The group of guys they put together at the beginning of the season stayed healthy and stayed together for 16 weeks. That is a blessing that can’t be controlled by the organization, by the coaches or by the players.

...thoughts on Rivera:

As far as our new head coach, I just want to say that I had the opportunity to meet Ron Rivera when he was with San Diego and they brought me in before I was drafted. He’s an upstanding guy with a great personality and I hear he has one of the better football minds in the game. That was further validated by Chris Harris, who played safety for him in Chicago. We talked about Coach Rivera a few times and how he did things in Chicago, and Chris never had anything negative to say. I think he’s going to be a great head coach.

he a FA? we should be able to get something for him.. a 3rd isn't too far fetched is it?

sounds to me he threw a lot of our lack of success on the back of injuries. the only injury that can be used is Otah not making it back.. all the rest were late in the season.. or none had a big impact to cause a downward spiral during the season..

yeah, he seems to have a pragmatic view on the state of the panthers' LB's. not sure if anything will happen this offseason with Connor, but perhaps after the CBA is sorted out the FO can find some suitors or perhaps another prospect to exchange for him.

Sounds like he's not looking to move back outside. I get the feeling he will be completely ready for a new start next season, and as the unquestioned leader of the defense, that is a very good thing. I expect him to be ready to go and form a winning defense whenever the players are allowed back in the locker rooms.

side note, this would be an awesome year to have OTA's and minicamp to get players up to speed on the new "way things are."

Unless the CBA is ironed out before the draft, teams will be unable to trade players. Therefore, any trade we made with Connor would have to be after the draft and for future year picks.

I see.. how does that work with FA? everyone has to sit tight until the CBA is formed?

I might have to expect the FO to go BPA in the draft regardless of need and attack our needs through FA once they open up.. although, both could go hand in hand..

only way they could go I think..

this means Orton could be had for next year draft picks.. interesting, I think I might have to go troll this info.. ;)

I've always said trade him to a 43 team that's transitioning to a 34 for a D lineman that doesn't fit their scheme. It's win/win.

      Just as we won those close games we could have just as easily lost them. So the jury is out on if we were more lucky than good ( see the sweep by the saints) Were moving forward on paper. And how badly dont we all want to see us back to at least Above average form. Its about time.

      If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.

      Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
