Bold Predictions for this Coming Offseason

Ricky Spanish

Recommended Posts

My predictions are not bold, but I believe there is a good chance it happens.

1. No CBA until August, Owners and players agree to limit FA so that they can get the season started on time.

2. with limits on FA, Panthers do not make the big splash that they need.

3. Panthers play better football but with the tough schedule, they end the season 4-12

4. 2012 Draft Panthers select Andrew Luck or Matt Barkley

- The Panthers trade DeAngelo Williams to Denver for a 2nd round pick; the Broncos also receive our 3rd rounder next year due to their 2nd rounder being basically a late 1st.

- Steve Smith is traded, but we only manage to get a 4th rounder for him.

- The Panthers sign Raiders TE Zach Miller in free agency.

- The Panthers draft A.J. Green 1st overall.

- The Ron Rivera era begins with the Panthers blowing out the Buccaneers in Tampa 31-16, shocking many so-called 'experts.'

- The defense plays well, but not as well as many expected under Rivera. The offense, however, performs MUCH better. Jimmy Clausen shows marked improvement, throwing for 2850 yards, 21 TD's, and 11 INT's.

- A.J. Green wins the offensive rookie of the year awards after catching 81 passes for 1239 yards and 9 TD's in 2011.

- Greg Hardy erupts onto the scene, leading the NFC in sacks with 15 1/2.

- The Panthers 2nd leading receiver isn't David Gettis or Brandon LaFell, but Mike Goodson, who catches 63 passes out of the backfield and from the slot for 573 yards and 3 TD's. He also rushes for 421 yards and 4 TD's. He develops a reputation as one of the most versatile offensive players in the league.

- The Panthers are in the wild card hunt for most of the year, but lose out after finishing with a 9-7 record.

- The Panthers have five players selected to the Pro Bowl: Jordan Gross, Ryan Kalil, Greg Hardy, A.J. Green, & Jon Beason.

- Nick Fairley is drafted by the Buffalo Bills. He is suspended after multiple fines and warnings due to his dirty play. He misses 3 games during the season after he takes a cheap shot on Ravens QB Joe Flacco and gets his ass kicked by half the Ravens roster. During the suspension, he gains 30+ pounds from cupcakes alone.

- John Fox leads the Broncos to a 7-9 record; The Golden Calf of Bristol becomes a Pro Bowl alternate and DeAngelo Williams makes the Pro Bowl for the AFC.

That's one of my greatest fears for this team. He was at rock bottom last season, and he's bound to show some improvement next season. He might improve enough to prevent us from drafting Luck.

Won't happen, he would have show that his IS the future, with NO doubt to make that happen.

Anyway, I don't think we'll be in a position to draft him anyway...unless there's a lockout.

If Pickles comes out and plays like he did last season, assuming he starts the enitre season, then I think we'll have a good chance at drafting Luck #1. If Moore starts, and he plays like last season, then again I think we'll be in postion for Luck. If Clausen or Moore improve their play, then we may lose out on Luck. If we aquire a vet QB, then we might lose out on Luck. My hope is that we either totally tank next season, or Clausen improves leaps and bounds and we don't need Luck. I think Clausen will improve just enough to keep us from drafting first overall. Not cool. 4-5 wins and we miss out on Luck would be a nightmare.

Eh, say we get 4 or 5 wins. That should put us drafting in the #2-5 range I would think. Not every crappy team needs a QB. That #1 spot could go to the Lions or (if this season proves to be a fluke) the Rams or someone else with a brand new QB. The only (currently) crappy teams that really need a QB are the Cardinals, 49ers, maybe the Broncos. As long as one of them doesn't get the #1 I could totally see us trading 2 firsts, or our first and second to move up 1-3 spots to grab Luck.

    • The guy has not coach college in ten years and in that span its greatly changed. Still take him over Davis, I want to see the presser and if billy still has fire in his eyes for college non-sense.....plus you know billy will want a multi-million staff.  This is interesting, very....... glad the old guard FINALLY steps aside......
    • Truth. Like when UNC hired Butch Davis and then we get hit for recruiting violations. Like yeah, no poo. Dude coached Miami when they we paying like the 33rd NFL team. What did you expect?
    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 2 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ?? There's waiver claims too, they have done that each year.
