Time to face the facts, guys

We are not getting a franchise quarterback this year.

There are none available in the draft, in free agency, or via realistic trade. None :nonod:

Next year? Maybe. This year? No. The best thing we can do this year is find a reasonable stopgap. For me, that's Volek via free agency. I have no interest in reaching in the draft, taking a shot at a guy we hope might be a franchise guy (already did that last year) or giving up the kind of significant value it'd take to trade for a guy that could fit that role.

This is one problem for which there just isn't any solution available this season, so we are just going to have to be patient.

(yes, I know ahat I'm asking) :sosp:

, asking the Huddle to be patient...

I don't know why, but I have this weird feeling that Carolina takes a QB with that first pick....

Who should they take.... Got me.... there really isn't a player in this draft worthy of a #1 selection, its kinda meh....

Myself, I don't like any of the FA options that are supposed to be available. Not really sold on anyone in the draft, but I'll wait and see how the players do at the combine and so forth.

It's actually looking like Clausen might be the best bet for next season. @_@

Whoever it is, they need to make an impact.

I would go with Moore Clausen and Pike then. Dont need a VET FA, we have Moore, who has already stated that he wants to stay here. QB Coach and OC are going to be very important hires. Lets see what they come up with.

A veteran presence is typically someone who can pass on good habits to the younger players.

Will Moore be passing on good habits?

:toetap05:

We're going to go out and get a veteran this offseason, but it's like I've been saying, there just isn't "that guy" to go out and get this year.

This is why I've been on the Green bandwagon.

Because if you can't get a great QB, you've got to put what you can around him to make him better.

At this point I'd rather us just stack the defense. Rivera is a defensive guy so why not stick to what you're good at? Even if we did draft a franchise QB our offense is still going to be mediocre at best. This D is a few pieces away from being elite. Make it so.

Mr. Scot, my man, you wouldn't be hinting that Clausen will be our franchise QB in 2012, are you...in your old Scottie type of way? Or, perhaps you're saying that Clausen sucks...I'm just messin' with you:D.

    • I agree, but I've already said that the players will definitely take more money up front because it's more security. But they want more guaranteed money and NFL FOs don't want to do that for several and various reasons, and that's what's at issue.  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-second-round-rookies-finally-starting-to-sign-what-took-so-long-and-what-it-means-for-future-contracts/ It's a tug of war between teams and players, and, sure, paying a player a signing bonus may satisfy them, especially if--and sometimes "only if"--it ultimately leads to a guarantee of more of their contract, but the teams are on the hook for all of those guarantees when cap time comes, so if they guarantee more money, they're ultimately losing the contract game.
    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
