Skipper not a lock for Broncos

Studesville back

Jim Skipper was not only Fox's longtime running backs coach in Carolina, he was considered the head coach's right-hand man.

But Fox is bringing back Eric Studesville as the Broncos' running backs coach, according to an NFL source. Studesville earned his stay through the admirable way he handled his four-game audition as interim head coach. He and Fox also were assistant coaches on Jim Fassel's New York Giants staff in 2001.

There remains a chance Skipper could eventually join the Broncos in another capacity, but he has running backs coaching opportunities elsewhere.

Strange :sosp:

From the same article...

McDermott joins D-coordinator hopefuls

Sean McDermott, the recently fired defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, is a candidate for the same job with the Broncos, as is Jim L. Mora.

Green Bay defensive line coach Mike Trgovac, who was Fox's defensive coordinator from 2003-08, may have been a strong candidate if not for the Packers' extended playoff run.

Trgo opted to leave for a demotion rather than to stay w/ Fox as a DC.....I don't think a playoff run is what prevents him from going to Den.

maybe that is good news on Skip. Would be great if Rivera could get him to stay.

From what I understand, it was Fox that advised him to get out while he could. Fox saw the writing on the wall that he was not going to get an extension, so started advising his coaches/friends to get another job if they can. That's why we had a mass exodus of coaches that year.

Panthers should make a run at Skipper again then.

If it's almost like if Skipper is definitely gone, we ought to consider trading Williams because he's made it known how much he wants Skipper back and how awkward it's going to be during camp, if he isn't.

Plus, we have no idea what sort of offense Rivera wants to run. Williams and Stewart may be less of a focus then they were with Fox.

    • Man, I havent posted in a while, happy to see the forum is alive and well!  Really excited about this upcoming season, and this draft class!  Lee Hunter will be an instant fan favorite, i might go ahead and purchase his jersey.  Will be interesting to see what we do at Receiver, a lot of talent and a lot of bodies, does XL get traded, or do they give him a shot this season to see what he has?
    • Goings was good too.
    • I appreciate TMo, he has been a rock. Plug and play, set and forget. But there are stories that they ice his knees or knee in game when he goes to the sidelines. If it is that bad that is pretty rough and it probably won’t get better with age and more wear.     You want to pay him, and commit that money, I shouldn’t object. But let’s at least roll him over a year at a time.  He isn’t a particularly good long term gamble.
